I am NOT a shred guitarist by any means, I spend all my time mostly playing blues music. However, I'm trying to learn the Selkies solo by BTBAM, as it is one of the best shred solos ever written. So good luck to me and my first sweeping solo.

I was chosen between some keyboardist to play a Mike Portnoy tribute at a local music academy.

I'm currently getting Stream of Consciousness on track. It's harder than it sounds.  :lol

The rendition of Limehouse Blues featured in Jazz At The Pawnshop (on bass).

I'm not trying to reproduce the guy's line, I'm just improvising over the changes ... keeping things groovy of course  :coolio

Programming a cover entirely through FL Studio...even the vocal melodies (done with programmed organ). It's "Our God" by Chris Tomlin, wouldn't expect but a few people to know that song.

That is a tricky song to play but it's doable. It's definitely something cool to play when hanging with friends.

Working on a couple Protest The Hero songs at the moment; Tandem, The Reign of Unending Terror, and Cest La Vie.  Their stuff is just wicked fun to play.  Very interesting lines, and not much breathing room for your left hand. :)

Haha I definitely agree with you there. I've been looking at the rhythm guitar lines for Bloodmeat, Sequoia Throne, and Limb from Limb (my favourite songs from Fortress in no particular order) and even they can be pretty tough sometimes. I wish I had the skill to play the lead guitar lines.

I hadn't played with any distortion in a couple of years, and I never learned any DT, so today I learned The Mirror, Rite of Passage (solo included), and Misunderstood.

I may check out some more involved tunes later (the Rite of Passage solo took a couple hours but its not too crazy) - I just wanted to get a few basic rockin tunes together for fun. Maybe I'll do Home or something soon.

just watched some videos of the Rite of Passage solo -- noticed that there is some right hand tapping...  i'm not doing any of that and I'm getting all the notes. there are some guys on youtube doing without some of it but that one fast lick from 6:05-6:09 nobody seems to do without the RH tapping... on the CD it definitely sounds like he's picking those accented notes and sounds much cooler, and thats how i'm doing it.. anyone else have any idea about that?

That last run in the solo is definitely a tapped part.  I'm sure you could get all the notes without tapping as it's a fairly compact part, but it's definitely supposed to be tapped.  Wouldn't mind seeing a video of you doing it without the tapping though; that whole solo is kind of a bitch position wise.  Lots of movement. :)

Dude, I learned the SHIT outta Fortress.  So much good stuff on there.  And the rhythm parts most times aren't really any easier than the lead lines.  Sequoia Throne in particular, is just FAST, but a ton of fun to play when you get it.  So's the main riff from Bloodmeat.  It blows me away though, listening to interviews and what not with those guys that they have absolutely no idea what they're doing.  They're just tearing it up because it sounds good.  I LOVE that.  Goes against everything I teach on a daily basis. :)
