DT - Octavarium

That is one fun song.

Definitely. I am learning random parts and then will eventually have it all down. I am just about done learning the Razor's Edge solo, and it's ridiculously satisfying to play along with. I could play it over and over for an hour (or at least until I've eroded enough skin on my fingers  :P).

I can still never get that last run... what about you? and those arpeggios in the instrumental section after Full Circle. Dayum.

I'm trying to get that run at the beginning of ITPOE1 on bass. The rest is pretty basic, but that one run is really tricky. I've got the muscle memory no prob, and I can play it at the right speed after a couple of warm up runs, but I'm really, really sloppy at it. I need a lot more consistency, I always either do it too slowly, or hit a few duff notes towards the end.

Ah well, I'll get there eventually! Practice makes perfect etc. I'm a lot better now than I was a month ago.

Yeah I haven't totally gotten down that run. It's a bit sloppy for now, but it works.

It's really hard on bass. But practice, practice, practice. That's the key

Second solo in Erotomania - I'm like 99% on this one now. :D

The rest of Erotomania - Probably 80%. A bit stuck after the classical sounding bit, if you know what section I'm on about.

Beyond This Life - Really fun rock out song. I even worked out the keyboard solo for guitar :P

The Audience is Listening - Wow, learnt this last week and haven't stopped playing it.

Cliffs of Dover - Enough said. Classic guitar tune. Can't do the improv. intro though, but I don't mind because I don't like the sound of it anyway.

Right now I'm working on a cover of nocturne by Peter Ciluzzi

video of him playing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBZbO5MfnIk

It's tough as hell, just the time and the nuances are very hard to get.

Today I started Space-dye Vest, I first started playing it to try the song, but when I found out it's easy as hell I took the cd and just played along. Hell this song is so much fun, very very easy and sounds beautiful on classic piano.

Going back to the beginning. Playing the Majesty Demos on drums.
Another Won, Your Majesty, and March of the Tyrant are the fun ones to play. Two Far has a short but sweet intro, Vital Star is pretty samey, and A Vision is really boring.

The hardest part on bass is the fill at the end of Full Circle. All the rest is fairly straight forward

It really is one of the best sounding solos I can play, especially after playing through Octavarium first. The final bend to the high F which holds for over four bars is killer on your bending finger though.

Yeah def. Sometimes I cheat though and just bend and use whammy for vibrato.  :P

The Count of Tuscany and In the Presence of Enemies are the two songs I practice the most at the moment I think. Oh and I'm also struggling with the final 15% of full speed on the Erotomania guitar solo.

Made some real progress on Scarred today. I have up to the unison down pat, and I took a look at the sweeping at the end of the solo to get a jump on practicing that.
Orion....that's the one with a bunch of power chords and boringly harsh vocals, isn't it?

That Scarred solo is so ridiculous. The sweeps at the end often just make me laugh when I try them.

They aren't really that hard. But, those two patterns are ones I practice a lot. It's getting them together that fast, and then zooming back down to the chorus riff.

On bass:

-The Real Me: Damn, the hammer-on madness bit is getting me.
-Harvest-Opeth: Just because there's an "open mic" night at school where you can perform.  Everyone loves acoustic douchebags, but I know friends who aren't douchebags and happen to play guitar.  Seems like a song we could play...
