Stuff for solo bass
« on: January 16, 2010, 07:02:43 PM »
So, im about to get into high school, and im trying to get into the local school for the arts and play bass.

I need to audition with two pieces. I have "Solar Groove" down, as well as the Medicate part of 8VM+ the synth solo.

HOWEVER

If anyone knows of a solo bass piece that sounds like "Solar Groove" that has tabs available for it, i would love for you to tell me about it  ;D Thanks.

Try some Victor Wooten, Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke stuff.

Not quite as progressive, but much more jazzy, plus it will probably impress the judges more.

Well can't you just youtube them and find the best one for you?

Honestly you have to suck it up and learn songs with your ears if you ever want to get better at your instrument.

Continuum really isnt that hard to learn. Just practice an hour every day and youll be amazed at what you can play. Learning Jaco also helped me with harmonics, which I was having difficulty with when I started.

The Stu Hamm Bass Solo from Satriani's "Live in San Fran" dvd is really good. I've played it live twice.

J. S. Bach's Cello Suites spring to mind...
