Stolen Babies
« on: January 14, 2010, 04:36:56 PM »
Any other fans here? They're kinda avant-garde metal, they remind me of a less chaotic form of Unexpect (they have a female singer as well), and frankly I enjoy them a lot more. They have Gil Sharone, who played for Dillinger Escape Plan, along with Rani Sharone, his brother. I'd really recommend checking them out.

I saw them live supporting Dillinger and BTBAM, but I was drinking pretty heavily and didn't pay much attention. However i did notice the singer was pretty hot

I've been listening to There Be Squabbles Ahead daily for a week now and I gotta say it's simpley amazing, interesting, entertaining and very creative.
I never find new music that catch my interest like that, last time that happened was with Porcupine Tree 2 years ago and before that was Dream Theater 5 years ago.
I ordered the CD online from best buy cause they don't have it in stores around here, I'll get some merch from the official website, this band deserves to be supported.
I wouldn't want somebody with 18 kids to mow my damn lawn, based on a longstanding bias I have against crazy fucks.

Apparently they're currently recording a new album :caffeine:

Hopefully they'll get to tour, either headlining or opening for some other awesome band (they've done some great tours in the past).

3 things:
1 - This band looks weird live on some youtube videos I checked out, are these really the instruments you hear on the album? this really can't be the same bass instrument on the album at least.
2 - According to wikipedia they don't have a guitarist currently.
3 - do we have enough fans here to make a survivor for this album? i wanna discuss it further!

1. Yep, same instruments. The bass on the album is either a double bass or an electric bass depending on the song, and he uses both live (at least in the vids I've seen). The rest is just keyboards, accordion, guitar, and drums.

2. Yeah, looks like they only have one when they play live right now.

3. I doubt it  :lol

2 month later and still not bored with There Be Squabbles Ahead, the production has a good share of what keeps this album sounding fresh.

I never did hear the "song from the new album" so thanks for the bump. :tup
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

Me too, the guitarist reads and replies to posts frequently on Facebook and he replied to me a few times. It's nice when the band is small and still connects with the fans that closely.

One of the members of Unexpect (Syriak I believe it was) once told me over Facebook that the band would like to partake in caressing my scalp, all because I praised their new album a bunch on their page.

I love shit like that.

Naught is out on Amazon and iTunes, digital release only. CD on October 16th

Seen them live last week, I have very little time online nowadays so I'll try to make it brief. They played a set of 7 songs, 2 from the new album, one of them I asked Dominique about it about the show and found it was called Second Sleep, that freakin song gave me chills live man.
This is the first time ever that I go to a show to see the opening act, I went just for them and left after they were done as I wasn't interested in Katatonia or Devin and I really didn't have time anyway. But it was something new to go to a show with the opening act in mind and to be the only one -literally- there for Stolen Babies, I made my way to the front center of the small stage of that small bar/venue by telling people I'm just hear for Stolen Babies and I'll be leaving right after, I got to the front center, leaning on the rail and sung loud to the Squabbles songs, I was the only one doing that so I stood out so much that after Filistata Dominique pointed at me and smiled saying "Thank you for singing along!" and I smiled back and gave her an army salute for some reason :lol
After they were done, they didn't have roadies to carry out their instruments so they were doing it themselves and I had my Squabbles CD on me so I called for Dominique to sign it for me and she said they'll come back out for me!
When they came back out they took the time to talk to me and hang out a bit, I told them I wanted to hear Year of Judges and So Close and they said their tour guitarist doesn't know that much songs yet but hopefully he'll practice more for the headlining tour. I also asked Sharone about the new album and what plans they have for touring, he said they'll be doing a lot of touring over the next couple of years.
Anyway just thought to take the time to give you fellas this quick update and even thank Sigz again for introducing me to this great band.
Naught is out and I'm on my second listen, too early for opinions but my first impression is that it's as unique as Squabbles and that it's very inviting to replay it again and again. I'll also be buying the CD when it comes out, if not for the quality then at least to support the band, but for now go buy the mp3s if you could, it's worth it.

EDIT: P.S: Dominique is a Rammstein fan, she mentioned it while signing my CD as a remark about my t-shirt  ;D

I'm seeing them on Sunday opening for Devin Townsend so I got the new album. Great stuff! Never heard of them before but I'm looking forward to the concert.
