Pirate, Viking, and Folk Metal

Discuss how awesome they are. Hopefully seeing Korpiklaani, Tyr, and Swashbuckle on Wednesday :2metal:

But I really want to see Amon Amarth and Alestorm ( :yarr) as well at some point!

I saw Alestorm and Tyr play together last year. Single greatest party I've been to. A room full of drunk pirates and vikings singing Wild Rover at the top of their voices is just plain awesome. :2metal:

He left for a bit, and they sucked. Musically not just vocally.

But now he is back, and they have returned to form.

Are we allowed to talk about how awesome they aren't? Of the bands mentioned in this thread, I've only actually listened to Alestorm. While their music was pretty good a lot of the time, I ultimately found it too cheesy to stomach.

I'm a fan of Amon Amarth myself. Their new album is really good, but I think my favourite is Fate Of Norns due to the title track and the epic 'Pursuit of Vikings'.

If anyone in this thread has not listened to this band, do so now.

They are brilliant and extremely consistant.

Didn't think they were viking metal, however. More black metal/Norwegian nonsense.

I posted that here because this thread also is to do with Folk Metal. Just a lot of guys like the whole pirate and viking thing, which is cool, and it's maybe because they don't know any folk metal or just ignore it in this thread, or it's just not much of a focus here.

Korpiklaani's new album came out a few days ago! Ukon Wacka.

I haven't got a chance to listen to most of it, but I have heard Tequila:

Eluveitie is pretty cool, although their first two album covers are deceptively backwards.

Amon Amarth have one out in the next week or so :tup

And the only other on top of my head right now is Alestorm the first week of June. Bonus track include a cover of Lazytown's You Are A Pirate. There's also a song about midgets and a track called "Death Throes of the Terrorsquid". Epic. :lol
