totally real.  1/30s pan blur with the camera tilted at that angle.  i really dont even remember cropping it.  i may have, but not much.  thanks for the kind words!!

Wow.  It seems like at 1/30, you'd have to be swinging the camera pretty fast to get that much blur.  If you did that by hand, how'd you keep the Porsche so sharp?

i normally focus on a part of the car before it gets to the point i want to snap the image.  when i pull the trigger i keep panning at the same rate til it's done.  kinda like the follow through to a golf swing.  this was also a breaking zone so i would say he was probably only running about a 100 mph here.

I'm still in the dark ages of photography with my Nikon 8008 film camera.  I haven't used it in a number of years, and before that I would just get my prints from the neighborhood drugstore.  However, I recently shot a roll of color slide film, not thinking about how I would get it developed when I bought it.  Does anyone here use slide film, and how do you get your slides/prints?  Do you mail it to a lab, or go somewhere in person to drop it off?

Coming up: Some shameless self-promoting and a few photos.

I started a Tumblr blog a few days ago, some of you may already have seen it on Facebook or maybe deviantART. It's to motivate me to photograph more often, since I think I don't do it enough. It'll be mostly photographs, but some other stuff will probably sneak in too, like reblogs or short texts. Nobody knows! Anyway, if any of you would like to follow it or just check on it once in a while, that would make me really happy. :)

And here are the promised photographies:

Dubrovnik, Croatia

For a school project, believe it or not!

Rhubarb pie with vanilla sauce and tea. This one I'm really happy with.

I love the make-up one!
Thanks! There's a lot of work behind that one. I first cleaned the sink really carefully, then carried tons of makeup from upstairs and arranged it. Then I snapped a load of pictures and cleaned everything up again. The photoshopping took a while as well because the light in the bathroom is kind of yellow-ish and I wanted a more white/blue sterile feeling. It was really fun, though.

Everything was, as I said, for a school project - I together with a friend wrote an essay on micro-organisms in makeup products, doing lots of laboratory work and stuff. It was one of the funniest projects I've done and our teacher, despite not knowing anything at all about makeup, loved it. My pictures were space-fillers on some pages and also added some colours to the essay, making it more interesting to read.

The strawberry photo is great! The makeup one makes me feel weird, i think the empty space towards the bottom of the picture takes away from it a bit. Word of advice! If you had trouble with the coloring of the lights in the bathroom, shoot in RAW format! You can adjust the white balance in post that way, not to mention the pictures will just look better.

Well guys, as of this week I am starting a small photography company with a coworker of mine.  We are planning on shooting fashion, commercial, and beauty type shots and also do portraits and creative work for bands.  We are mostly staying away from event photography.

I'm pretty excited to get this started.  We are already planning our first 3 shoots at 3 different locations.  My girlfriend volunteered to be our first model since she wants to get some professional photos done to pass out to modeling agencies anyways, so it worked out.

Wish me luck at building this thing up.

Also, if anyone is interested, check out my facebook page, I update it fairly regularly, and also hope to start doing portraits soon.

I was recently in the countryside of Pennsylvania and was amazed at the sheer amount of stars visible.  Where I live in SoCal you can't see shit because of the city lights.  If I lived in a place like this I would have a massive telescope and would be seriously into astrophotography.  This was a first attempt for me, 30 second exposures at ISO 3200.

Very nice! If I had a camera with decent high iso noise levels I would be tryin that all the time.

It's a trade off... still lots of noise :(   I didn't know how to do a manual exposure (if it's even possible with my cam).  That would be ideal, lower ISO to get rid of the noise and just a longer exposure time.  Overall, it was fun to play with.

So what was this then, auto set at that iso?

Shooting in manual, ISO set at 3200, shutter speed of 30 seconds (that's my lowest).  What I need to find out is if there is a manual shutter function.  Then I could extend the shutter time, lower the ISO, and hopefully reduce the noise.  I shot them with my Nikon D90 and a Tokina 10-17mm Wide angle lens.
