Nice photos! I wonder, why is there this glow around the traffic lights?

At this moment in time, I am fucking jealous as hell of all you guys able to actually go out there and shoot. My lack of a camera is starting to sadden me greatly.

Not consciously no, but ever since I saw that album cover it has been in my subconscious and makes me drawn to traffic lights for photos I guess :)

Some of you might have seen her works, but I really love this Japanese photographer, Natsumi Hayashi, and her levitating self-portraits series. It is very creative, refreshing and lovely at the same time, and NO photoshop editing at all, just great setups and great timing.  :hat

The moon looked just like that in the Minneapolis area too on the 4th. Huge and kind of orangy red.

Last night I experimented with different shutter speed, I took this pic of a deserted shopping cart in the flowing river. A comment on capitalism perhaps?

So I've decided I'm going to start saving up for the Canon 70-200mm f/4 non IS L lens :) It looks like a great lens to compliment my Canon Rebel t2i/550D with so I'm excited to save up and get it then start using it!

Love that one!

Here's a few of my favourites from a beach walk that I need one night on Waikiki beach on my families vacation there in early July. Shot on my T2i with the 18-55mm kit lens

This one is my personal favourite due to the fact the exposure is set so you can see the nice sunny sky but also see the beautiful teal water, and then how I lined up the two people in the rule of thirds spot happened worked really well. I'm really proud of this one and it looks so much better without the dumbed down internet quality!

Here's a few other favourites

I finally got my 70-200mm f/4 L lens :D 550$ barely used at all! Tried it today and it worked like a charm for shooting hockey shots, I got a job as a sports photographer for the local major junior club here!

So I'm getting my first DSLR in the mail this monday (as long as UPS doesn't change their mind). Ordered myself the Nikon D3100 in a bundle with two lenses (18-55mm kit lens and a 55-200mm VR Lens). Very, very excited to start making use of this bad boy once I get my hands on it.

I have a few ideas for some projects I want to work on, but was wondering if DTF had any ideas for what I can do to make the most out of my journey into practicing and immersing myself into the world of photography.

Ooo new camera! I'm exited for you. :)

I always find that just having a goal orr specific thing you want to photograph helps enormously. I'm no expert but i seem to take better shots and have more fun this way as opposed to wandering around shooting everything. But then that's great too, observational photography is great, walk a route you walk often and shoot everything, street signs, road markings, shadows, reflections. Even the bins. Play with composition and shapes. Fun

I also like to use  https://www.dpchallenge.com/ They run weekly challenges, there's usualy about 4 at any one time, just for fun and bragging rights but it could give you some focus(lol). There's an active anf friendly community there and folks often share how they got their photo.
Hope this helps, even just a lil bit.

Yeah, I enjoy just going on photo walks every now and then (back when I was borrowing my friends camera) but I don't ever get quite as inspired as I do when I'm working on a specific project of some kind.

That website looks really cool. Gonna sign up and keep up with what's going on to try out new techniques and such. Thanks for the suggestion mang, it's highly appreciated.
