Obviously it would but at the same time it would be interesting because of that.

I think I'll do a top 15 Unexpect songs... or not. I'm not sure if enough people would follow it.

I'm currently in the process of ranking the songs and it is really, really hard. This band is so consistent it's not even funny... I decided to do a top 10 instead for that very reason and I'll start as soon as my list is made.

OK so I have a rough order right now. SOngs are subject to change but anyhoo. Also I had to leave some GREAT songs out but whatevaaaa GOGOGO

10. Orange Vigilantes

This song is about Pumpkins taking control of our world. Pretty metal indeed. Right off the bath it's starting with some great prog metal riffs with trade-off growls. Then, there's this awesome "funky" section with bass/piano/drums and some gorgeous clean vocals by Leïlindel. The bassline in that section is one of my favorite by Chaoth overall. Anyhoo, a short and catchy chorus and some variations of the sections later, time for some headbanging stuff near the end :metal. This song is one of their most straightforward by the band's standard. It doesn't make any less enjoyable though so that's why it's sitting at the 10 spot.

OK so the show was REALLY good!! The setlist was awesome they nailed the new songs. The bassist kept on randomly jumping in the crowd so that was fun. :P At the some point the violin didn't make any sound (for like 2 songs) but they kept playing, sometime the guitar would do the violin part and so on. All in all, great show, great set and great performance. It's always incredible to see them live and I can't wait to see them again in two weeks! Here's some picture I took:

And to continue my top 10...

9. Desert Urbania

This song is a fan-favorite and became a bit their "single" from IAFA. It was also the first Unexpect song I heard; I remember hearing the piano intro with the tapping bass and the violin and liking it a bit but the when the guitars an vocals came on... it was the first of many WTFs to come. :P The jazzy sections in between the madness of the riffs, clean/harsh vocals are all done with an high level of energy, which is probably why this song work so much as a closer live. The ending riff is one of my favorite riffs by any band... epic stuff. :metal

I have just heard of their songs because it was sent to me in my roulette. All I have to say is that this band really kicks ass. I will defitnitly check the rest of their albums.

8. Unfed Pendulum

I remember when Fables was taking forever to come out, a video of this song live was like the only new stuff up by the band and I watched it so many times.. I almost overkill'd it before actually getting the album! :lol I love the structure of the song; from the clocks samples in the beginning, to the often-repeated, short chorus, to the creepy atmosphere section or the epic riff at the end. Unexpect is often about blending genres of music together and this song is no exception, but it all seems so coherent, so fitting... The songwriting is just excellent, as well as the lyrics!

Unfed is definitely a bit higher for me. I think it ranks at 2 or 3, with The Revival and Desert Urbania. Great list so far!

7. In Velvet Coffins we Slept

I think this pick will be a bit of a surprise for some people. This song was originally on Utopia and was then re-recorded on We, Invaders. A lot of black metal elements in there, whether it's on the lyrics or on the actual songwriting. The violin is also an important part of the song. My favorite part though is the middle section, and it's even better live (yes, I took that video). I just love how Syriak sings "Filled with delightful melodies... AND BLOODY CARRESSES". They often start their shows with that song and it really sets the tone for the night. :metal

6. Summoning Scenes

Another great track off IAFA. Opera-esque vocals, jazzy sections, noise elements... this song start strong. Then, the contrast between the evil, rhythmic growls and the eerie, beautiful vocals by Leïlindel in the chorus is just wonderful. This one's really a succession of awesome sections (like the breakdown in the middle, showing that the band can pull off some great atmosphere as well). It's a great example of the band's diversity and one of their first songs that clicked with me. Also, I love what Exod does on this track, trigging noisy samples, soaring synth and jazzy piano bits at the end. There's not much more to add here.. just a kickass song! :tup

Summoning Scenes took a long time to grow on me. But oh man when it hit, it easily became a top song from IAFA.

??. In the Mind of the Last Whale

Before entering the top 5, I need to talk about this song a bit. It's so different from their other stuff that I couldn't rank it with the "regular" songs.. so here it is. On their latest album, Unexpect decided to experiment with electroacoustic music on one of the track and the result is simply breathtaking. Electroacoustic sounds, minimalist drums and piano, beautiful vocals... the whole thing is a brief moment of nostalgia and sadness. Since there's no lyrics, the title couldn't be more pertinent, giving the perfect imagery to guide the mind through this short, melancholic journey. Some days I even consider it my favorite song of all-time - yes, it is that good. :hefdaddy :hefdaddy

I'm pretty sure #1 will be the suite at the end of Fables. Psychic Jugglers is in there somewhere. Oh and probably Unsolved Ideas.

5. The Quantum Symphony

Everyone is on fire on this track. And there's a lot of great moments too. The opening DEP-like riff, the electronic beats/tapping bass section, the violin/bass lead on the first verse, the theatrical vocals and so on. But my favorite part is probably the chorus, which is one of their best (as well as more accessible) ever. Leïlindel is doing a kickass job as usual, delivering her vocals off a wide range of styles (growls, modified electronically, clean, theatrical speech). I wouldn't be surprised if they picked this song for their second videoclip off Fables because it's relatively short and concise, but mostly because it's fucking amazing.

4. Psychic Jugglers

Psychic Jugglers or "A dialogue between paradoxes. Feuding perceptions in the everlasting scales-tipping war"... What a fantastic closer for an album as insane as IAFA. It's basically a song about the war between the Reason and the Subconscious. The Reason is personified by classical piano/strings (Syriak does all the piano on this track) and a some pretty odd vocals while the Subconscious is well... batshit weirdness of all kinds. The "battle" alternate between the two until some sort of climax followed by a quiet noise/atmosphere section. It's the section right after that, the ending part, that makes the song for me. It's hard to explain why I love it so much since it's something you just feel inside... but by the time the clarinet solo comes on I'm usually suffering from an awesomeness overdose. :hefdaddy

ALSO --> Unexpect show tomorrow so excite!! It's the "official release show" for the new album so it should be a good night. :tup

3. The Shiver (Another Dissonant Chord, Meet Me at the Carousel, A Clown's Mindtrap)

Epic, epic song. The intro has some of the best atmospheric stuff the band has ever made: Electronic soundscapes mixed with beautiful soft vocals by Leïlindel, who is singing in hungarian here. The transition to the second track is awesome... "Another dissonant chord for my sanity's requiem". The second part is pretty much insane. Circus music, math rock and extreme metal to the recue! :D The best part though is the ending track. The epicness here is unmatched; The lyrics, the vocals, the music... total perfection. This is probably my favorite track ever, by any bands. The reason why The Shiver is "only" third on the list is because the first two tracks brings it down a tiny bit. I'm not sure how to end this post so heh I guess I just did that. :P

I'm a bit surprised to see The Shiver up so high. I mean, it's great all around, but easily the "weak point" of IAFA. If something like that even exists.
