HAIL! has been making a lot of noise around the world with its crushing live shows and its insistence on bringing metal to not-so-easy-to-reach places. Having just returned last month from playing one of the first metal concerts ever in Beirut, Lebanon, HAIL! has once again outdone itself.

Commented Ellefson: "Mike Portnoy is a demi-god! He is hands-down one of the very best drummers in the entire world and to be able to play together is really an honor.

"We have had our fingers crossed for this to happen because, truth be told, we had originally talked with him about the possibility of playing with us early last year. At that time DREAM THEATER was working on 'Black Clouds & Silver Linings', so it just couldn't happen at the time, but his enthusiasm and understanding about what we as HAIL! were doing was immediate. There was no need for any explanation, he got it — because he is it.

"An interviewer recently asked me how long we planned on doing this and I joked 'until we run out of drummers!'" laughed Ellefson. It is our aspiration to try and reward every fan that comes to see us with a one-of-a-kind, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Professionally filmed video footage of HAIL! — Ellefson, Kisser, Owens and Paul Bostaph (TESTAMENT, SLAYER, EXODUS) — performing the SEPULTURA classic "Territory" on November 20, 2009 at Hektic Hall in Beirut, Lebanon can be viewed below. The clip, which was mixed and edited by Roy Naufal, is said to be a sample of the "Hail! In Beirut" DVD that is currently being produced.

Although HAIL! claims to have been "the first metal band" to ever have played live in Lebanon, several other acts — including APOCALYPTICA, LAKE OF TEARS and THEATRE OF TRAGEDY — have previously performed in the country.

It would be fucking sweet if they finally did a US club tour, but sadly, I believe it's doubtful

Yeah, cool setlist. Considering the Slayer/Priest connection, Dissident Aggressor would have been cool.

Pretty sure mizzl's question was sarcastic/rhetorical. But props to you for answering it seriously. First thing I did was look to see if there were any DT songs in the list. But not many would really work for this kind of show. Even the Train of Thought material is still a bit too "out there" for straight-on metal.

ok..Kisser is a roady turned guitarist...and now the Sepultura has more or less "left him"....he's really reaching. Im not sure what Mikes angle is here..but there is better "heavy" out there to affiliate yourself with.

Yeah, I have about 0 interest in this. I don't really care for Megadeth, Owens hasn't done anything I care about and I'm generally not a fan of the stuff I've heard him on, and the other guy/band I could care less about.

Frankly at this point Portnoy is the only person in that band worth caring about.

I personally am quite pumped. No reason to shit on the musicians. Tim Owens has been in Judas Priest, Iced Earth and Malmsteen's band (among a dozen other projects). He has earned his stripes and come a long way from being in tribute bands. I mean, I'd say that's a more impressive resume then any of the folks here can cop to, aye?
Dave and Andreas are also great players and represent two of the best thrash bands.

I highly doubt Mike has an "angle". We know he's friends with Dave and this is probably just a chance for him to do something fun.
It's clear there's no money in this. This is something fun to do. Why does everyone have to get all heavy about it?

I didn't read the whole thread, but can someone explain if they're gonna be recording or what? I like all the bands that each member comes from and would really like to hear their material, but I can't find anything about them on the internet.
