I've now come across maybe a half dozen reviews of the new album from (obviously) those with advance copies and I don't think anyone has given it less than 90% or 9/10.

Sept 30th is going to be a good shipping day - this, Enchant and Flying Colors all on same day.  First week of October is going to put a smile in my ears.

Yea all the reviews i've seen have been nothing but positive, they seem to have really hit home with this album. I'm trying to not get to hyped but man it's really hard.

Same.  I never like to over hype on an album as it mostly always leads to getting expectations too high, but yeah you're right, it's hard not to.

I've read quite a few more reviews since the last time I posted about it, and still, not a single negative word about the album or even an individual song as being a weak spot. It's very rare to see an album gushed over like this. It seems crazy to think so many reviews could have it all wrong, but we shall see. To think they we may get an album full of songs that are as strong as "King of Errors" is just orgasmic.

Even the reviews of the reviewers seem very consistent. ;)

Edit: Actually saw this before I saw the report. Thanks for that, but no need to worry about an accidental case, as long as it's not always happening!

I'll let you know how it is tomorrow.
A local store in Sydney has in stock already and I am picking it up on Saturday.
I really hope it lives up to the hype?

Oh how I love city traffic, just over 1 hour to get 8km

Anyhow the trip was well worth it, the new Evergrey is a massive return to the killer sounds that have deserted the band for the past few releases.
Everything sounds right again, it all clicks, great songs with a massive sound and production.

Yeah I'm not sure how a shop in Sydney AU, gets to sell the album 9/10 days before the official release date.
Not that I'm complaining about it either...

I've posted 3 times about it being available locally, and stated that I bought it.
So your calling me a liar and saying I'm listening to a leak?

So here is my proof of purchase, CD and receipt.

Official iTunes release date here is 29/12/14
Not sure when the physical release is, but the store in question usually get it from wherever in the world (USA and EU imports).
Both versions have sold out where I got mine from and it hasn't been torrented yet, so I guess all is good.

Good old Utopia.  I acutally drove down to Sydney for a few days a few months back and this was one of the first places I went too.  The greatest music store I've ever seen.  Brisbane use to have one like it, but it closed down years ago.  Utopia seem amazing when it comes to new releases of any metal genre.

Utopia sounds a bit like the old Metal For Melbourne - I spent a fair part of my childhood in that place  ;D  Even down in Melbourne I know of Utopia so they have a good reputation.

On a related note if any Aussies are interested there's a new doco that was recently released on the (relatively underground) Aussie metal scene that I grew up around.

Yeah I remember Metal For Melb, it was also called Metal Mayhem, not far from Flinders Street Station.
The Brisbane shop, was it called Skinny's?
I fondly remember visiting both in the 1990's.

Yeah Utopia has been around a long time, in various locations.
I first went in 1982, the old store when it was not much bigger than a bathroom.
Still going strong too and yeah they seem to be able to get anything from anywhere in the world.

That's the one man.  I went there the first time when I was like 15 and it just blew my mind.  It wasn't up to par with the selection of Utopia but it was good and the only one we really have left is Rockinghorse which was pretty decent too, but now is shit for metal and is more for hipsters and alternate type of music.

So disappointing when Skinny's closed down a few years back.

Have to say that the songs feel a bit simplified compared to their other albums, the songs feel more straight forward. I'm not saying it's a bad thing but that's what i've noticed after one listen. Of course I have to listen some more to form a more justified picture of the album.

The production is excellent!

Favourites so far:

Black Undertow
Hymns For The Broken
The Aftermath
King Of Errors

Those how ordered the Digi/Ltd version are in for a treat on the 2nd disc. Carina Englund, what a voice!

Got it.

The first thing that stands out, without a doubt, is the production. Holy shit, it is absolutely fucking pristine. Secondly, Tom vocals. Outstanding. This guy is so soulful for being a "metal" singer. He is criminally underrated.

As MrBoom stated, overall this album does seem a bit more straightforward than others, but it is drenched in atmosphere, melody, and emotion. I agree with Boom's four picks as favorites so far, as well.

I am very pleased overall, and see myself only feeling deeper in love with this album. It's lived up to the hype, in my opinion.
