Thread resurrection.

So I recently got Jar of Flies and... Wow. I'm thoroughly impressed. Can't believe I didn't check this band out anytime sooner. Nutshell is an impossibly good song...

Any suggestion on which album to get after JoF? My expectation is really high at this point.

Dirt is their best. Also, though I'm sure you're aware of this already, expect a heavier sound from many songs on their full-length albums.

As with others, go with DIRT. but it is heavier. All the regular albums are heavy. the EPs are more acoustic-based.

Also, Nutshell is good on the album, but if you want to hear an emotionally jarring version of the song, get the Alice in Chains unplugged album. When listening to "Nutshell" kick that off, listen to the lyrics, and then remember how Layne Staley died. It was like he was delivering his own eulogy. And you can tell that he knew he was going to lose the battle.  One of the more gut wrenching, emotional vocal performances I have ever heard.

Time to necro this thread. The new single "Hollow" is coming out tomorrow, and the new album should be out in March or April. Can't wait  :metal

Didn't know there was a DTF AiC thread - awesome!  Even though I still haven't listened to BGWTB yet (very long boring story), they're still one of my favorite bands of all time.

For those of you saying Cantrell is a riff master... eh, he's a riff GOD.  You also owe it to yourself to check out the double disc Degradation Trip album - music is just unreal.

If you like Cantrell's solo stuff that much, you really should check out BGWTB.

Ooo - very sludgy and appropriately dark sounding.  Not bad.  Not bad at all.

Edit - I may have to listen to that about 20 more times tonight. :jets:

I actually think it's a pretty cool title. Certainly sounds like something Jerry would come up with.

Yeah, I totally agree - that's a Jerry title if I've ever heard one.

:metal If any of the other songs are as dirty and groovy as Hollow then this is going to be one hell of an album.

Was the album before this Black and Blue? I liked that album but...didn't really love it aside from a few tracks. I like Hollow more than anything on that album though, so that's either going to be a great sign or I'm going to be disappointed.  :lol

Kind of a boring album cover, but eh, whatever. If it can top Black Gives Way To Blue, that'd be awesome. That's one of my favorite reunion/comeback albums by a band ever, and my second favorite AiC release.
Hire me. I'm talentless but malleable.

Apparently a Seattle station played "Stone" as well as "Phantom Limb" yesterday. I've really enjoyed "Hollow" and "Stone" but "Phantom Limb" is :o

I agree in the sense that I don't find any AIC album spectacular. But I do enjoy it as much as the first two albums, the self titled one is the only album that never clicked for me and always sounded like the band tried to imitate Nirvana

How? They've had sludgy heavy stuff from day one. They hardly belong in the same sentence as Nirvana and that's coming from a full-fledged Nirvana fan that loves them to this day.

Don't take my opinion too seriously since I only listen to Nirvana and AIC casually ;)
I think their self titled album is less heavy than than the first two, it's the only one I'd call "pure Grunge" and has less of the unique AIC sound. I took Nirvana as an example because they are often regarded as the definition of Grunge.

I feel the opposite.

"Stone" is okay, "Hollow" was pure AiC goodness. :)

They're a metal band trying to imitate King's X and have as much as said so repeatedly. AIC and Nirvana have as much in common as dolphins and airplanes.
