Rankings, eh?

1. Jar of Flies
2. Dirt
3. S/T
4. Facelift
5. Sap

Never did check out Black Gives Way to Blue.  Probably should do that some time.

Yeah, so I gave BGWTB a listen.

All I have to say is that this album solidifies Jerry Cantrell in the top echelon of riff-masters.

Yes. Yes it does. It is not Layne, but that does not mean it is not as rocking as any album with him.

EPs aren't really albums, so I didn't rank EPs.

Jar of Flies is more solid than most full length albums I own so I'm gonna disagree with that.

I agree with you... but you can't disagree with that... they're not albums. Not trying to play devil's advocate, but you can't rank EPs in an album ranking. It's like ranking pineapples with vegetables because pineapples are better than most vegetables. They're different.

Personally, I was just ranking albums, if I was gonna rank all their material I'd include it.

Sorry if I overdid it there... I didn't mean for that to come off as uptight or something... but it probably did.

:lol  No big deal really.

In other news, Duvall sounds so much like Layne that it's pretty damn hard to tell them apart on much of BGWTB.

^I think he sounds a lot like him too.  I mean I can definitely tell them apart, but Duvall "fits" the band's sound about as well as Staley, and for mostly the same reasons.

BGWTB surpassed my expectations too; great album.

I thought they sounded similar too, but I can easily distinguish between them now.

Kinda like when I first heard AC/DC. Bon Scott's and Brian Johnon's voices sounded very similar to me, but now I can distinguish between them very easily.

They sound waaaaaaaay different, ACDC I mean. Layne and Duvall definately have a similar sound but they have their own thing about them. I think Duvall is a better singer ( A Looking in View) but Layne is much grittier (Bleed the Freak)

Damn, I love this band so much. Layne was one of the greatest vocalist of all time, imo. His performance on Love, Hate, Love is so amazing...

The vocals in the chorus of Man In The Box, specifically the 'FAAAAAAYYY -AY AY AYD, MY EEEEEYYYYYYYESSS!' is the most badass sounding thing ever. (yes I know it's feed)

It's still an album, it's just a shorter one. It's however much material they produced in one studio session and decided to release. We're not talking a single with 3 or 4 B-sides on it.

Apparently, Mike Starr, the band's original bassist, died today. I'm not sure how true this is. Someone said it in a Blabbermouth comment and his Wikipedia page says he died today. But that's just Wikipedia and one Blabbermouth poster, so who knows.

Music doesn't get much more emotionally draining than that.
