Part of what makes Sculptured unique is what I read on 1 of the reviews on rym.

First off, this is different. No matter who comes to mind when you hear the words "death metal" or "progressive metal", this doesn't quite sound like them. And this is definitely nothing like Agalloch, thank goodness - I adore Agalloch, but there's nothing worse than musicians who get involved in side projects just to make the same music. I am thankful that the members of Agalloch use Sculptured to explore types of music that do not fit within Agalloch's stylistic bounds.

The vocals are nothing like your Black Metal shrieks nor your operatic style clean singing from the you name it...Andre Matos or Jimmy Gnecco.

To me the vocals FIT THE MUSIC most importantly.

Also 1 of the comments on YouTube was saying the new track was a MONO mix, so that may have something to do with the quality. I honestly wasn't bothered by it, but I only listened to it once. Did the vocals blow me away? no. Did I find it awful? no. I guess I found it like most of their other music, it fit the music well enough. But I certainly mean to listen to it more to be more confident about it and the new record.

In case anyone needs to clean their ears out after that- this is sweet. Hailing from MN myself and knowing him personally, I might be biased, but Austin Lunn (Panopticon) is one of the best things going in this sub-genre of metal…maybe all of metal for that matter.

He also co-owns Hammerheart Brewery in MN - a Scandinavian black/folk metal themed brewery which is actually one of the coolest things ever. A few years back they brewed a small batch of beer in honor of Agalloch called “Serpensblod” and it was available for the Agalloch show when they came by.

Agalloch has reunited for some "limited shows".

Will this lead to anything more? Not betting on it, but... man I hope so.

This is the news I've been waiting for. I don't know where I heard the interview, but they teased that something in the near future would make Agalloch fans happy. I'm not holding my breath hoping for a full reunion and a new album, but hopefully the "handful of limited shows" includes something within a few hours of North Carolina.

And hell, why not? It's probably foolish of me to hope, but I wouldn't rule out a more permanent reunion either. It's not like they've been tearing it up since Agalloch disbanded. I wouldn't be surprised if some time apart hasn't changed their thinking somewhat.

Man…this is tough for me

John Haughm made such an ass of himself after Agalloch- usually I can separate the person from the art but for whatever reason, it’s really tough for me in this case, probably because I was so passionate about the band before everything went down.

This interview with Don Anderson made it easier for me: https://www.decibelmagazine.com/2020/01/21/former-agalloch-guitarist-don-anderson-on-the-white-the-grey-reissues-repairing-his-relationship-with-john-haughm-and-a-live-performance-video-with-panopticons-austin-lunn/

If his bandmates have condemned him, confronted him, hashed things out with him, and ultimately forgiven him, that's probably as good an indication as any that he's actually grown and changed.

This.

Yes John made a complete ass of himself in the years after Agalloch disbanded, but people can and do change for the better all the time. Has he actually changed? I don't know, I've never met him before. All we have to go on is what is bandmates and close associates say. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

I'm a pretty staunch believer in the idea that artists' works can and often do transcend who they are as people. Once they've gone beyond a certain line I won't want to support them financially anymore, but frankly, I don't see JH as having crossed that line yet.
