Or he just had a FLAC CD rip that someone uploaded.
Then what is he disagreeing with?  :lol The CD rip certainly sounds better than the 192kbps leak.
on par with the anguish one would have from getting unconsensually bent over and buttloved.

I think he's just taking 'rip' to mean 'anything downloaded'.

I'm saying that you shouldnt imply the only leak is one of low bitrate.

I still think Into the Painted Grey is my favorite off the album. Black Lake is super close behind it, but there's just something about it, especially in the vocals, that is just amazing.

I think To Drown is one of the best things they've ever done.

1. To Drown
2. Black Lake Nidstang
3. Into The Painted Grey
4. Ghosts of the Midwinter Fires
5. The Watcher's Monolith
6. They Escaped the Weight of Darkness

Ghosts of the Midwinter Fires and The Watcher's Monolith being both great songs but not as amazing as the top three, which would all be in my Agalloch top 15
on par with the anguish one would have from getting unconsensually bent over and buttloved.

8:39-9:21 on The Watcher's Monolith = biggest eargasm on the album.

Can't stop listening to this album.  Think I like it more than Pale Folklore at this point.

edit: nvm, I just listened to PF again to verify that statement, and I still like it more.  Damn me.

As crazy as it may sound, Marrow of the Spirit may be my least favorite Agalloch-album, but i still love it to bits, and i think it's amazing.
When i hear MotS, i can't help but wonder how good the next album will be. (in like 3-4 years or so)

It's not crazy at all.  They're all masterpieces to me; some just less so than others.

The Mantle > Pale Folklore > Ashes Against The Grain > Marrow of The Spirit

That said, they are all fantastic in their own way and I am so very happy they don't keep trying the same thing every album.

I'd say my overall-ranking would be:

Ashes Against the Grain>The Mantle>Pale Folklore>Marrow of the Spirit

But the reason AAtG is number 1, is because i feel like i can listen to it at any moment, it fits every mood.
The Mantle can be just as good when i'm in the mood for it, and i really have to be, considering the majority of it is instrumental, and i really gotta be in a certain mood to appreciate it.
Pale Folklore is awesome as well, and can easily battle with the other 2 for my favorite spot. :P

Thanks to Portrucci sending me a song in my Song Roulette, I've given The Mantle a few listens and I love it! Perfect music for the winter.

I need to give AATG a listen at some point as well.

The Mantle is superior to all. Definitely check out AATG though, as well as Marrow of the Spirit. Also, you'd probably really dig The White EP.

With my new found tolerance of harsh vocals, I need an album recommendation. I tried them once with Ashes Against the Grain, but I did not like it because of the vox. Now, with their new album that everyone seems to be smileing all over, I was wondering if I should try that.

Try Ashes again, especially considering there's way more music than vocals on that album.

That is not necessarily a good thing with me. I tend to dislike long instrumental passages because my mind kinda just goes "swoosh" and always seems to come back when there are vocals.

Man you just gotta get over it. I'm seriously confused how vocals can be that much of a safety blanket when there is a ton of beautiful music to enjoy by itself.

Yeah, I know, I'm trying!!! Anyways, I'm going to listen to AAtG after the album I'm on now, and if my opinion of this album continues throughout the entire album, my opinion and subsequent post about said opinion might just break DTF.

This and being on DTF does not compute.

On another note, I also gotta say Ashes.
It's not only my favorite, but very diverse with both clean and harsh vocals. The new album is mostly harsh, which I'm fine with, but probably not the best starting place.

One thing about the DVD though:
Needs more 'Fire above, Ice below'.

Listening to that now, SO good! :hefdaddy

The middle-part is probably amongst the best music ever written, by anyone.
The places that song takes me to...

I absolutely agree.  The ebow (I think) section is my personal favorite section of music ever; it just puts me in a state of euphoria.  I just listen to this song in the car driving through the snow, and I just smile because I'm so happy.  :p

Anyways, I was listening to Agalloch radio on last.fm and came across a band called Kauan.  I searched the name and found they were mentioned in this thread, so I thought I would just say that their album Luminkuuro is AMAZING.

also, sidenote, respekt Pale Folkore. Definitely my second favourite LP of theirs. The melodies contained within that album are truly godly. She Painted Fire Across The Skyline, As Embers Dress The Sky...just perfection.

Pale Folklore is fantastic, some killer tunes on that album.
If I would rank the albums, I'd probably do it in this order:
1. Ashes Against the Grain
2. Pale Folklore/The Mantle (tied)
3. Marrow of the Spirit

Pale Folklore has my favorite guitar tones of theirs.  The clean sound is perfect and really adds to the atmosphere, and the distorted tone is just really crunchy.  I also love all the wind samples, rather than crickets chirping and stuff.

I've been listening to Agalloch for about a week now and I already think Ashes Against the Grain is one of the greatest things ever.

Why didn't I give these guys a chance sooner? Especially since I live in their hometown!  :lol
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.
