Hey there!

We are about to make a very special new record! The idea is that we want it to be like a "choose your own adventure" album. We are going to record 10 songs... then record them again in another style, and then record them yet again in a third style. So there will be 30 tracks in total - some loud, some soft, some pretty, some harsh - with the idea that the listener will pick his/her favorite version of each track and be allowed to make their own "official" version of the album!

Unfortunately, in addition to being really fun, this idea is overflowing with expenses! The mixing of the album will probably cost at least $6,000, mastering around $2,000, and then with packaging and paying string, horn, woodwind players... YIKES.

If this sounds like a fun project to you, think about donating some cash. You will get totally awesome things in return, as well as a good feeling from helping support a few nerds fulfill a musical vision!

I listened to the YouTube song and it's not that great.  Doesn't sound so much like the Dear Hunter; just a lot of orchestration like they do, except even moreso.

oh sorry about the bad myspace link. Yeah it has a "the" in it. I didn't realize I forgot that when I typed it out.

But they do sound a bit like The Dear Hunter among other groups.

-Menomena (whom I'm sure NOBODY around here knows)
-Apes and Androids (who maybe 2 or 3 people around here know).
-Operahouse and Late of the Pier whom I'm also pretty sure nobody around here knows. That's not to say people around here SHOULDN'T KNOW, because all of those bands are worth listening to. "Indietronica" of a kind.

I suppose groups like The Decemberists or Cloud Cult would also be worth a comparison, but much less so as neither of them really use electronic music like TAoR do.

The Age of Rockets combine Electronic elements with classical or chamber music in a cool way. And they have some power-pop to their style as well, mainly in their use of vocal-harmonies.

More of the point being, they're a good band, and are doing something pretty ambitious with this new album. And they are pretty close to pulling it off actually.

fuck, some of those samples on their blog sound AWESOME. It sounds like the record could be finished by the Spring..so the album could be released late Spring or next Summer.

The Record is done. It will be out September 1st (my birthday) Kickstarter kickers will get it this week.

sadly we won't ever play again and this is the last record. We managed to do 3 records and never have a release party!

Never saw this first time around, but I really like the idea, very cool idea to let people choose their own favourite version of each song! Shame they're calling it quits, but it'll be interesting to hear how it's turned out.

it's kind of a long story, but the original plan was for this album/project to involve THE WHOLE BAND, but other than Andrew Futral, most of the members have had other things going on, so much so, it sort of became an Andrew Futral solo release.

I think they got a bit ahead of themselves in trying to make 3 albums at once. That's why it's taken nearly 4 years to finish.

Andrew's other gig, Field Mouse (which is the main project of Rachel Browne), has become more successful, and so he's at least had that to do.

But in doing this big concept, I believe the other members of The Age of Rockets were going to be available to make it, and it turned out, they weren't. Bess Rogers for example has been in Ingrid Michaelson's touring band the last few years.

I got it today and have only sampled some of it thus far. But this truly is like 3 VERSIONS of the same album. I'm just not sure HOW I want to listen to it yet, but that's kind of the whole point of this experiment.
