so i haven't heard any of kamelot's albums before epica; are any of them good?

feel free to discuss kamelot's awesomeness in this thread as well.

Adami

Karma is pretty good, but way overrated. Fourth Legacy is quite good too. The other albums....eh, few good moments, but not much more.

This.  Especially the comment on Karma.

Of course, Kamelot is legendary with just their last three albums in any case.

abydos

Yes. The Fourth Legacy and Karma are awesome.

PlaysLikeMyung

Fourth Legacy is awesome.

Gwii

cool, i will check out those two then.

emindead

I just deleted all my Kamelot songs!

why?
I don't know why, but I just realized that I have overgrown that dark metal era. I suddenly don't like it anymore. I'm sweeping my iTunes library and getting rid off of music I no longer listen to.

ahh i see.

i should do that with my itunes; it's soooooo cluttered right now.

Starkweather

Really, cluttered media library is why I buy music, if I didn't I would have so much music, and I would listen to the same shit over and over again.

Anyways, Karma is good, but I'm not adding anything by saying that.

GuineaPig

Fourth Legacy is worth it alone for Lunar Sanctum.

TheVoxyn

One of my favorite bands  :metal

They are one of the most awesome live bands ever, If you ever have the chance to see them - do so. But maybe part of the awesomeness was that there are loads of Kamelot fans in the Netherlands, probably more then in any other country  :metal. The concerts are sold out 6 months before  :metal.

Volk9

Eh, their ok, but not too special for me. A few of their songs are kool though

And then what happens when at some point you decide you want to listen to that stuff again? My listening habits change but I very rarely decide that suddenly I dislike something enough to delete it.

Anyway Karma is my favourite Kamelot album, but other than that the other pre-Epica albums are mostly uninspiring. Fourth Legacy has it's good bits, but it's not particularly great. The others I'd say don't even bother with.

Pretty much love all of their albums.

I'd say The Black Halo is their best album, just.

Ghost Opera has some badass tunes.

I'll have to disagree here.

   1. "New Allegiance (Instrumental)" – 5/5
   2. "The Fourth Legacy" – 4/5
   3. "Silent Goddess" – 4/5
   4. "Desert Reign (Instrumental)" – 4/5
   5. "Nights of Arabia" – 5/5
   6. "The Shadow of Uther" – 4.5/5
   7. "A Sailorman's Hymn" – 5/5
   8. "Alexandria" – 4.5/5
   9. "The Inquisitor" – 5/5
  10. "Glory" – 5/5
  11. "Until Kingdom Come" – 4/5
  12. "Lunar Sanctum" – 6/5

Rank: 4.58
Seriously, as far as this genre is concerned it doesn't get any better than this.  Also, The Expedition is a great live album with some of the older songs sung by Khan. Call of the Sea Expedition are fucking outstanding live.
Karma, Epica, The Black Halo are probably all near perfect 5/5 for me. Having seen them live I have to agree with whoever said it before - they rule live. Khan is one of the best live singers I've heard. The only  problem I have with him is that he often skips the few high notes he used to sing on the albums. I don't know if he doesn't like them or is uncertain in his voice...

GuineaPig

Don't forget "Millenium".  Absolutely killer live.

Not sure it's going to happen. And if it happens, well, there's YouTube...
And apparently I didn't delete "Epica" nor "The Gourth Legacy". And somehow "Black Tower" and "Millenium" survived.

Global Laziness

The Fourth Legacy is good, too, but I'd stick to post-Epica albums. The rest gives off the vibe of uninspired power metal.

GuineaPig

It just hit me today that the state of metal's lyricists is pathetic if the best metal lyricist speaks English as a second language.

Also, Kamelot's recording a new album!!!!!!!!!!!  :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal

Should be awesome.  They're the only band I have complete faith in to make a great album.

cramx3

Kamelot is awesome, but I have not dug deep into the albums before The Fourth Legacy.

Arcaeus

One of my favorite bands, they used to be #1, and they introduced me to both power metal and prog metal. So I owe them a lot.

I'd rank the albums:

1. Epica
2. Epica
3. Epica
4. The Black Halo
5. The Fourth Legacy
6. Karma
7. Ghost Opera

Grappler

Kamelot can do no wrong in my book.  Khan rules the earth.

Ben_Jamin

The first time I heard these guys was at my friends house, we were watchin A Cold Winters Night. I loved them after that. I only own Ghost Opera, and that is a good album, I like the vocal harmonies and the whole symphonic element of it.

Rush - Armor and Sword

GuineaPig

lolwut

The one thing I'd change about Kamelot's sound is have them do longer instrumental breaks.  Their songs, although they work quite well, tend to be quite formulaic.  It's a shame because they have some great musicians, but they never do prolongued instrumental periods.  I think them doing longer songs like Memento Mori would be great.

stop pretending to be Sigz   :yarr

perfey

Awesome band. Nights of Arabia has to be one of my favorite songs ever, the drumming in that song is so good and I like the eastern kind of vibe. Also, Khan is to fucking great, he has an awesome range. A Cold Winters Night, awesome DVD! Great to hear that they are currently recording a new album!

Destiny Of Chaos

1. Karma

2. Epica
3. The Black Halo
4. The 4th Legacy
5. Ghost Opera

cramx3

Ive been listening to Ghost Opera a lot lately, Im hooked.

Yeah, Ghost Opera's a lot better than it's been getting credit for in this thread.

abydos

I think the only reason why Ghost Opera isn't really loved that much around here is because it's the 3rd or 4th album with the same mood/sound they've done. For a new Kamelot fan it's probably a really awesome album, but for old fans it's just nothing that new. That said, it's still a great CD.

Well I can hardly argue with that seeing as I'm a new fan.
