I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I like the transition twixt them, so siding with one over the other just doesnt do it for me. For fun, I like to think of them as one song in two parts, but that's just me.

I don't think I could. When I first got the album I didn't know "Lie" was a single. So, when I finally saw the video it felt odd.

It appears I chose "like them both equally" way back in the day.  I guess that's still true, although I'd say the outro solo in Lie is the only memorable part of either.

These two songs are easily the low point of Awake, by the way.  They're still all right though.

How ironic that Blob started this thread 2 years ago before the crash?  How does this thread still exist?  ???

The Mirror has better riffs.  Lie has better solos.  But, I don't like them equally.  No option available for my preference.  Didn't vote.
