hmmm five-tuplets?

There really is no best way. You have to feel it. But if you want a method, I recommend practicing like you would for sixteenths or sixteenth triplets, count slowly at first then work your way up.

I was looking through my dad's jazz transcription books (he was a jazz major in college) and I saw a seventeen-tuplet (seventeen notes in one beat).

That's jazz for ya :lol

The solo in Erotomania is decent for learning the 5 note per beat technique, if you slow it down a bit first of course. It's also very fun to play IMO.

Quintuplets are fairly easy to play fast, because then you just need to focus on the "corner notes" and get those on time (as for example with the Erotomania solo). Playing them slowly, rather difficult.

I've used this trick from time to time:
Play two sixteenth-notes and then a sixteenth-note triplet, that adds up to one beat. Loop that, and then start "evening" the notes out, until you have a steady flow going, all the while tapping the beats with your foot. Or leave a metronome on. But that's my advice. Use the closest possible rythmic figure, and then try to smooth it out so that all the notes are the same length.

A. What was the time signature?
B. What was the BPM?

A wouldnt really make any difference.
B could make it suck balls.

I think one of the etudes in JR's Keyboard Wizardry book had seventeen-tuplets, and the worst one I've seen (in classical music) was over thirty-tuplets.  :xbones
Surely one day they'll work out it would be simpler and far more legal just to suckle on each others' teats in a kind of wonderful 69 of eternal calcium goodness.

For those unaware what that polyrhythm is from, check out this article by Steve Vai: https://www.vai.com/LittleBlackDots/tempomental.html

It's a great read, and a good overview of irregular groupings and polyrhythms.
