Bump!

"During the first day of this year's Orion Music Festival last Saturday (June 8), event hosts Metallica took everyone by surprise by taking the stage under fake name Dehaan and charging through their entire debut album "Kill 'Em All.""

They don't have it in them anymore to write albums like that, but I have to give them credit that they know how to honour the classics.

That is indeed badass, especially when it's a surprise performance!

Wish I saw the Orion festival last year, I'd give anything to hear RtL in its entirety, it's my favorite album of all time.

So awesome that they did that. I wonder when the last time they played the full version of The Four Horsemen was.

Probably never, to be honest. I have Cliff 'Em All, which has a performance of "The Four Horsemen" from either 1983 or 1984, and even then, they didn't play that part in the middle.

Now they've played it (at least) once, maybe they'll continue with it.

Just listened to the whole thing. I was impressed! They put the effort into doing it properly.
The vocals on KEA had some higher spots, and I was impressed that Hetfield at least attempted the majority of it as recorded, and the drumming wasn't balls, and the solos were good for Kirk, and the bass was mostly spot on too.
And the quality and mix was pretty good for a bootleg recording too.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

Seeing as how (I think) The Four Horsemen is a Mustaine song and how he subsequently released it as Mechanix, I wonder if Mechanix is more similar to how TFH was originally written and if Metallica just added the chill part/solo to differentiate it enough to avoid legal action but actually preferred the original (according to my speculation anyway) version so they opted to play it that way throughout their career.

During their 30 anniversary shows they played it completely.

It's probably on you tube still.  Orion '12 was streamed live.

Four Horsemen is SO much better than Mechanix it's not even funny.

Except that Mechanix is utterly hilarious.

hard for me to compare though; its been 8+ years since ive heard TFH, and ive inhaled copious amounts of memory-destroying air in the interim.

Exactly. The blame lies 100% on Lars and Kirk anyway with about 80% being on Lars alone. James Hetfield didn't ask for his vocal cords to get destroyed when recording So What during the black album sessions. Also, post-St. Anger, Het's seemingly done everything in his power to rekindle the awesomeness of pre-black album Metallica.

I'm now listening to the full Kill 'Em All show, and I must say, I love it. Lars throwing in extra double bass parts during Hit The Lights? That's really cool.

No. None.

Maybe in ten years. That's how 'Tallica operate.

Their latest Concert DVD is from 2009.

Am I the only one who thinks the Fixxxer lyrics are actually too good for the song they're in? The song itself isn't ReLoad-filler bad, but it's no wonder either; the lyrics are pretty great though.

Hmm, kinda yes. Musically I find it as a weak try to recreate The Outlaw Torn, but the lyrics are pretty good.

I honestly think Load and Re-Load are more enjoyable then anything after....

Load is my second favourite Metallica album, and ReLoad is very possibly better than Death Magnetic.

I haven't heard St.Anger, but I've listened the songs as GuitarPro-files (better snare drum sound ) and I didn't really like them.

ReLoad is my least favourite Metallica album, with St. Anger following. Load is really good, and Death Magnetic too.

TRUTH. I listen to those two albums way more than St. Anger or Death Magnetic.

I know it's a bit of a straw man argument but it holds some water - When St. Anger came out - some metallica fans were going
" Ok it's shit but at least it's metal - unlike Load & Reload "

Which kinda disproves the argument that people didn't dislike L&R because they weren't *metal* but because they were bad albums.

They do have some filler but L&R have some classic Metallica songs on them and Reload especially is their last album with decent audio.

Fixxxer is an underrated gem. Waiting for them to give that song its live debut!

All the "epics" from L&R are amongst the best in Metallica's career.

Load was actually my first Metallica album. I remember my uncle bitching about it and saying "here, you can have it", and I ended up liking it a lot.

I don't mind bands trying a different style as long as the songs are quality, and load is far from perfect, but I still dig it.

I even enjoy Lulu to some extent.

But the way Metallica fans treated it was as if it was the bona fide official 10th Metallica studio album and that Lou Reed was the new lead singer for the band.

It was a Lou Reed album - it should have been blatantly obvious what it was going to sound like going in.

Thirdly - It was a Lou Reed album which happened to have Metallica as the backing band. It was a side project and an experiment.

It's far from the worst CD ever made. Hell, it's not even the worst Lou Reed album ever made.

If the next Metallica album is produced at least as fat and heavy as Lulu - then we're in for a treat because the guitars and drums were huge.

My Metallica Top 3 :

1.Master Of Puppets.
2.Metallica
3.Ride The Lightning.
