First off, see the announcement in the Rules/Announcement forum.  That has a very basic explanation of what happened.  I'll try to read and answer as many questions as possible.  But I'm also running behind on other things, partly because the forum technical issues have absorbed a LOT of time over the last few days.

1.) Avatars:  You will all need to upload new avatars.  We saved the user database.  Avatars were not salvaged.  You will need to upload them instead of linking.  If you are having a problem uploading an avatar, it may very likely be too big.  Try scaling it back.
2) PM's:  PM boxes allow a limited number of messages (50).  So make sure to clean out your inbox from time to time.
3) Themes:  I hope you like the main forum theme.  It is a bit basic.  But given all we had to deal with, cool graphics and other things that make it pretty were lower priorities than combing through the database to see what we could salvage to get us up and running again.  Currently, your options are the standard dark BCSL theme and a blue/light theme that is fairly low profile for those browsing in places where you don't necessarily want the world to know you are browsing.  More themes (lighter) will likely be coming soon.
4) Profile settings:  You should all thoroughly examine your profile settings to get your accounts set the way you like them (notifications, time zone adjustments, theme features, etc...), since most items were likely re-set with the new installation.
5)  Other bells, whistles, and doo-dads:  Feel free to still suggest things you perceive as forum improvements.  Right now, we are pretty stripped down.  I will be adding some, but not all, features back in slowly and carefully.  Not sure at this point what is coming back, what isn't, and what will be new.  Time will tell.

Personally the first feature I'd like to see re-installed is the one that allows users to select how many posts and topics per page they see, followed by whatever allows us to see smileys below the quick post box.

If you are having a problem ... it may very likely be too big.

If we all need to reupload avatars, why do I still have mine?  Or am I just supposed to do mine over as well?

What's the deal with stars anyway? What makes a member important enough to get them?

You already have your green stars, quit complaining ;)

Yeah I think stuff like that will follow at some point, but not really a priority :)

They are green down at the bottom in the "Users Online" section.  I think having them actually be green in the threads themselves is a modification, in which case, no, we will not have that back.  Unfortunately, a lot of the modifications we installed were likely contributors to the crash.  But you still have your forum alumni status and, as I mentioned, you have the green color in the user list.

PLM, please PM me your information regarding the donation so I can verify and update your status.

It does that in the default theme, so looks like it is a theme setting.

I'd like the feature back where we can delete our own posts and topics. I've used it more than a few times to cover up my unfortunate stupidity at times when posting.

Only ones stored on the server needed to be reuploaded. If you link yours from photobucket or someplace then it's still there.

By the way, what features were causing the problems (just so we know which ones won't be implemented again)?

Let me give a rundown of what modifications there were, so that bosk can address them individually if he chooses to, but the quick and safe answer is "none will be back anytime soon, and many not at all".

Some of the modifications that were done that are not in place now:

Global Announcements
Enhanced Profiles
Blogs (already had been uninstalled)
Videos auto-play in posts
Message preview on hover
Users Online Past 24 Hours list on forum index
Ability to change how many posts/threads per page you want to view
Ability to see who is browsing inside a given board, and thread
Colorized membernames across the board (depending on membergroup - example, admins were red)
Color membername legend on the forum main page (these two go hand in hand but are separate modifications)
Ability to bookmark threads
Separation of "Pinned Topics" and "Normal Topics"
Location and age under people's avatars when they post
Quoted image become a link instead of showing the image repeatedly

this is all I can think of offhand.

Please don't put this in.

Why? It was so much better having youtube links show up in a window rather than requiring you to click. They don't actually play/load until you click them anyway, so I see no reason not to have it.

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

These are the ones I feel I would want back, really. Especially 'Message preview on hover'.

But all in due time though. No hurry.

Those are quite stable modifications. Perhaps in time.
