Actually my first was Clerks; I didn't even know about Mallrats until after I finished Clerks.

I watched all of them in order. I thought it would be the best as their might be a continuos story. Turns out there is no major connection between the films. There is a bit though.

The only real connection I've been able to see is Jay and Silent Bob being in most of the canonical View Askewniverse movies.

I actually watched all of these in a day with a big group of people a few weeks ago. It was awesome. I mean, I'd seen them all before but never in a row... and my perspective on Chasing Amy changed a lot.

I grew up going to the mall in Mallrats, all I really remember is the elevator and those damn neon palm trees. Now it has had major major renovations and is a really really nice mall.

It always annoyed me that the mall in Mallrats isn't actually in Jersey. Wtf? We have a million malls here. The dirt mall, on the other hand...

Dogma is easily one of my favorite movies of all time. Brilliant, epic, hilarious stuff.

However, that's the only View Askewniverse movie I've seen. What should I see next?

Obviously a huge fan here .. I've attended 2 evenings with Kevin Smith at the Count Basie theater in Red Bank

Own all the films with Dogma being my favorite

Bethany: I don't mean to sound ungrateful... but what are you doing hanging around?
Jay: We're here to pick up chicks.
Bethany: Excuse me?
Jay: We figure an abortion clinic is a good place to meet loose women. Why else would they be there unless they like to fuck?

It was filmed in the city in Minnesota that I lived in prior to moving to New Hampshire last year.

I remember seeing Dogma in the theater 3 times on its opening weekend.

I just saw Clerks a few days ago and liked it.  Couple of hilarious parts, but there were plenty of parts that looked like the actors were in a play, rather than a movie.  Still pretty good though.  Not sure if I'd put it on the pedestal that a lot of other people put it on.  Dogma is pretty funny as well.  I'll see if Netflix has any more of these.

Cool to see a thread like this resurrected. I for am a big Kevin Smith fan (sans Cop Out) and the Askewniverse films especially. Never quite sure which I would rank as my favorite. Possibly Chasing Amy or Dogma, although I've been watching Mallrats a hell of a lot lately.

Anyone here seen Red State?

I haven't followed Smith in a while.  If I remember correctly, after his hockey flick Hit Somebody apparently he wants to give up the director's chair?  Anyone have any more info on this?

Also, for those of you with Netflix, there's a great two-hour Q&A on the instant queue entitled "Too Fat for 40," where he answers just one question.  Not available anywhere else, as far as I can tell.

I used to be big into the View Askewniverse flicks as well.  If I had to pick a favorite I'd probably go with Mallrats, although I love them all.  Chasing Amy is probably my least favorite although I recognize that it's his best work from a film-making/story-telling standpoint.  I just don't find it as funny or entertaining as the rest.

I grew up and live in Jersey. Kevin is very good friends with my cousin. Both grew up down the NJ Atlantic Highlands and we are all roughly the same age. I have met Kevin on several occasions. He is just as funny in  real life and is really a laid back and also really smart dude. Great guy. another leser known film by Kevin (Jersey Girl) is not part of the askiew series but pretty decent.

Red State is awesome. Lots of people will be pissed off by it and I am suprised it hasnt raised more outrcies like Dogma did.

I cant count ho many times I have seen all his movies, but IMHO, Clerks is the best, followed by Chasing Amy, Dogma & Mallrats.

I've seen a certain part in the middle of Dogma though, when the main characters are on the train.  Love the Silent Bob line, but disappointed that that was all Smith decided to do for that film.

Watching Jay and Silent Bob right now.  And on that note, the video I'm watching links to something called "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back Harder."  Anyone know what that is/if it's worth watching?

Haven't seen Mall Rats, but as for the rest...

Dogma
Clerks II
Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Chasing Amy
Clerks
Jersey Girl

And to give some perspective, I really like Jersey Girl and love Clerks.
