Koi is good but Diamond Eyes is Godly! :metal

Agreed.

Don't get me wrong, I like Koi a lot, but I consider Diamond Eyes to be a perfect album.

I didn't think he would get much better, but he did I guess. Damn shame he's gone. Always think of Chi when I ask my friends to put their seatbelts on.

Yeah, it really goes to show how important they are, since his sister walked away with only minor injuries.

Let's start this thread up again!

White Pony is their best record. Everything they have done since and will do will be compared to White Pony. Everyone wants another White Pony. I must say i wouldn't mind one either ;p

But i think that it wont happen because the band has grown since then. White Pony has this atmospheric, sonic trip-hop element to it that doesn't really seem to be a big part of them anymore. Diamond Eyes had parts that were similar to White Pony, but other then that, it's in the past.

With White Pony, the guitar work was more textured and had more feeling. Same goes for the bass, keyboards etc. For the most part, the songs did not sound Meshuggah, or Mastadon influenced, with big heavy crushing guitar work. That's what i hear on their newer stuff like Koi No Yokan. It's still Deftones of course an i love it. But its not white pony.

I'm just saying all this because it bugs me how so many people will say something like, Koi No Yokan or whatever is like White Pony, when it's not at all. With koi No Yokan all the insturments sounded like they were mixed together, layered upon one another to create a very full and also heavier sound. To me, this sounds like the opposite of White Pony.

Dont get me wrong, i love all their albums. But i kinda do miss that trip-hop element that band used to have. They don't seem to focus as much on creating sonic soundscapes. But i guess that's them. They're doing their own thing and being very successful. I love that. i and many others didn't expect them to be together this long. I love SNW, but it took so long i didn't expect Diamond Eyes to come out so soon, and be such a big hit! SNW got no attention it seemed, then all of a sudden Deftones are huge again! Good Job guys! keep it up!

Eros has to come out someday. Judging from this song, it's something more to my like, as opposed to Koi no Yokan, which i liked. But this songs sounds more mellowed out, like something from White Pony, a one of a kind album that Deftones have yet to come even close to since. The new album was good, but it sounded to 'chaotic', like there were to many layers and tracks on top of each other going at the same time.
They gotta release Eros. I hope their next album is Eros, maybe they'll go into the studio and finish it up. I really hope so.

New album coming out in November.

https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/new-deftones-album-pushed-back-to-november/

I'm very eager to hear it, since Koi No Yokan might be my favourite of theirs. I haven't heard all of their albums yet though, but at least about half of the songs from each one.

Sixteen songs is quite a lot though. However, they have consistently put out great albums, so probably this one is too.

I'm excited for the new album, but I won't lie: I want to finally get a hold of Eros after this.

I like Koi No Yokan, but it sounded too...errrr....full? I guess that describes it. Its good, but compared to something like White Pony its not even close. White Pony is actually a pretty simplistic album, simple riffs, ambient atmosphere, but soooo effective and amazing. Perhaps they should get back into the coke?

My two favourite albums are White Pony and Koi No Yokan. I love how they're not sounding like a tired version of themselves these days, but instead keep on experimenting with their ultimately ever-recognizable sound. Next album should be good, as far as I'm concerned they've never released a bad album.

Deftones is such a great band that it's hard to rank the albums. I guess White Pony would be my favorite, but their output is really consistent. The debut is alright (I would say it's good but not great), everything since is great or better though.

Yea, I agree that they've never released a bad album. People put down the self-titled but I think that was just because it came after White Pony. I heard it after obsessing over WP, so I understand that, but its also an amazing album. Dark, just not ethereal like WP was.  I'd love another WP, because as I said, there was a symplicity to the music, but Diamond Eyes and KNY are great albums too.

Ever heard the song from Eros they released? I gotta say, its a great song. Its too bad Eros was never released. The song sounds pretty much like a mix of something from WP, DE, and KNY.
