The only comparable reunions could be Judas Priest or Deep Purple in 1984 (that was f##king huge BTW), but in terms of viability and success, this current Maiden run is unprecedented as far as I can tell.

The Perfect Strangers tour blew my ears out.

I do agree with Maiden's comback as one ofthe most viable as well as continuing making great music and playing to crowds just as big or larger today.

I think a major part of the reason that Iron Maiden's reunion was so successful is that they can actually still play what they used to... if better. Even Bruce, though showing minor signs of aging, can be compared to his former self, and if anything, improved over time. The other major problem with old metal bands is the drummer (read: Lars Ulrich), and Nicko's... well, Nicko.

Rock in Rio is easily one of Maiden's best moments.

My favorite Live Maiden album is Death On The Road.

As far as successful reunions go...what about Kiss, the Eagles?
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Holy shit, Happy belated Birthday! Could've been on Christmas Eve but oh well.

So here's something I reflected on. You guys introduced me to A Matter Of Life And Death last year. I also wiki'd it when I first listened to it and it said this:
Quote
In order to provide a more "live" sound, the album was not mastered.[4] Producer Kevin Shirley said, "Spoke to 'Arry (Steve Harris) on Friday, who has decided against mastering the Iron Maiden album... It means that you will get to hear the new album exactly as it sounded in the studio, no added EQ, compression, analog widening, etc., and I must say, I am pretty happy with the end result."[5]
That's what I liked about this record. It sounded, and literally too, raw. That's what I was really impressed by. The bass tone I couldn't get enough of on this one too. It was just so pure sounding, I don't know how to describe it.

I think the general sound of AMOLAD is incredible, much better than The Final frontier. I just wish it was slightly louder, though...

Well, it's not mastered and overproduced that's why the mix is quieter.  It's not a bad thing, when music is overproduced it clips and kills the overall sound and dynamics of the music.  I don't mind music that's loud and somewhat overproduced, but some people hate it.

When you crank AMOLAD the mix sounds quite good and overall the music breathes a lot more than say TFF and DOD.

Exactly. AMOLAD doesn't need to be louder at all.

I just looked at the waveform to the first track. It's really dynamic for music made in the last 4 years.

So, thinking about this the other day; TFF is by far the worst of the reunion albums, and is the just the lowest point in a discography that has fallen steadily worse since BNW.  BNW is an absolutely stellar album, with DOD not far behind it.  AMOLAD, despite it being a fan favourite, never grabbed me in the same way the first two did.   TFF fails to grab me in every way; the concept, the artwork and certainly the music.  The whole sci fi thing is just cringe-worthy, over-used and just.... lame.  In short, its bollocks.

I think the thing that brings down AMOLAD and TFF is the lack of diversity in the tracks.  Everything is just too samey, even for Maiden.  BNW and DOD have a lot of diversity and the songwriting, especially in terms of the 3 guitars, is inspiring.  There's none of that in AMOLAD and TFF.  Just the same old gallopy VI-VII-I bullshit.  Maiden needs to rethink their game plan or call it a day.  Another album like TFF and that's their credibility down the drain, IMO; I don't know if I can sit through another album of average Maiden again.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no basher.  I've loved Maiden since I was 5 years old, no bullshit.  Kids at school were reading Goosebumps and Star Wars novels during silent reading time and I was reading Run To The Hills (the Maiden bio).  Some of the fondest memories I cherish have a Maiden track as the backdrop :lol.  Its like I'm seeing a good childhood friend become a shadow of their former self.  It saddens me.

My 2c.

TFF still has a few awesome songs, but the rest of it is quite mediocre.  AMOLAD destroys it.  The songs may be kind of samey, but they're all pretty badass.

This.

Though I have been getting into TFF more and more lately and man, those awesome songs are really awesome and even the others are pretty good too. I'd still say it's far better than DoD.

The Final Frontier has to be the album I've been listening to the most in the last couple of months, obviously because of being such a fanb0i. It's a pretty awesome record, with a lot of classic moments, yet with a strong will to deliver something fresh and new when it comes to band's standards. And the song that strikes me the most when it comes to originality is The Man who would be king. The intro just made me stare at my stereo in amazement, it sounds so creepy and gives me goosebumps. And how about Dave's solo - man, that part kicks ass. Needless to mention that the song is filled with guitar harmonies like no other Maiden track.

My point is this - The Man who would be king deserves a whole lotta  :hefdaddy :hefdaddy :hefdaddy

I found AMOLAD grew on me quicker then TFF.  However, I would love for Maiden to release another album with shorter, faster songs; similar to their 80's albums.  But regardless, I still love them all

Considering that the exact type of song you mentioned seems to always be the weakest track(s) on any of the new releases I'd rather them keep where they are.  Besides, you can only write so many "The Trooper"s.

If they made new songs similar to "The Wicker Man" or "Rainmaker" I would be happy.  However, I love every song they have done; the more recent epic ones just seem to take longer to get used to.  Once they click, they work.

I agree.  I'd love an album like SiT.  Full of straightfoward, rocking classics, with a dash of progressivenesssssss
