I've listened to this album in full about 5 times already.

I've managed to be able to enjoy the first half of the album, but the 2nd half is just so boring for me every time I press through it. Sorry, this one is far from Maiden's best for me.

This is funny because i dislike the first half, but like the second half.
Starblind and Isle of Avalon are my favorites on it.

I think both halves are really average. That said, there are definitely some gems on both.

2nd is really really better, and you get to feel the album in that half.

I think the whole album is great other than "The Final Frontier".

Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

The Talisman would like to have a word with you.

I don't know, The Talisman is actually the weakest song of the second half of the album for me. Isle Of Avalon, Starblind and The Man Who Would Be King are all at least very good. WTWWB is good, although I don't think it's exceptional (and I really don't like album closers that don't end on a resolving chord).
... And you ask me: "Where's my hairspray?"

Yeah The Talisman really does nothing for me. I think it might be my least favorite from the album.

I like "The Talisman", even if it is Maiden-by-numbers at most part.

I wish it had a better performance by Bruce.

I feel like Bruce's soaring vocals really MAKE the song.  It is kinda Maiden-by-numbers, but feels less so than a lot of other stuff on the album.

Could you explain?  I think a lot of the album sort of shies away from this.  Isle of Avalon, Starblind, The Man Who Would Be King, Coming Home, Satellite 15...The Final Frontier all are (relatively) different imo.

My biggest complaint about WTWWB is the same, though.  Most of the riffs just seem so "typical Maiden", which is a shame because there are some genuinely awesome parts to that song.

I dunno. If you guys are upset about the riffs on TFF being "typical Maiden," I find it hard to believe we've been listening to the same band all along  ;D

Maiden are coming to Gothenburg on the tour, but i decided not to go this time.
I've enjoyed them a lot when i saw them on the AMOLAD-tour and on the SBIT-tour, but this time it didn't have enough power to make me purchase a ticket.
Sure Maiden always puts on a good show, but overall i wasn't too fuzzed about TFF, i think the first half of the album was fairly bad compared to the second half, but the main thing that puts me off is the high price for a ticket.
Also, a fairly poor concert-year this year, so im hoping that i can see a lot of my favorites next year, and already seen Maiden twice so. :)

I finally got a chance to listen to No Prayer for the Dying and Fear of the Dark, two albums that for some reason I have avoided. Well, No Prayer for the  Dying is worth avoiding and Fear of the Dark, albiet better, a LOT better than NPFD, is certainly STILL a far cry from SSoaSS.

Fear of the Dark is a bad album, but the title track and Afraid to Shoot Strangers =  :hefdaddy

I've never cared much for either Fear of the Dark or No Prayer For the Dying, some cool and underrated songs, but that's about it.

It seems I like FOTD a little more than most fans; I can find something redeeming in most (not all) of the songs with the exception of FHTOE and WW.

Also, it seems that I am in the minority but I just can't get into the last 2 releases. The whole acoustic intro-long song-acoustic outro is just SO past played out . . . I long for the return of the short awesome songs from the 80's where they started right out with a bang and a wallop. These recent recordings make them sound every bit their age  :(.

I liked it a lot on AMOLAD but it was boring on TFF.

But I think AMOLAD has a much more fitting atmosphere than TFF does, and probably why I like it a lot more :P

I kinda feel the same.
When AMOLAD came, it was really great and unique compared to the earlier Maiden-catalog, but when TFF came out, it was like "oh, this shit again?".
I really like Starblind and Isle of Avalon (together with a few more tracks), but overall i thought TFF was fairly disappointing.

It feels a bit strange to say this, but i'd rather see Maiden split, and have more of Bruce's solo-albums.
I think his latest (Tyranny of Souls) was amazing, maybe even my favorite, and it has more variety then the latest 2 Maiden-albums.

TFF is good, but I was hoping for something more like Dance of Death rather than the same tired routine again. Dance of Death was such a breath of fresh air when it came to Maiden.

I thought TFF took AMOLAD and expanded it a bit more, which turned out to be not quite so good.  I think AMOLAD may be the best IM album and they nailed it with that one, but TFF seems like they took it too far.  While AMOLAD was a very different IM album, it still very much felt like IM.  TFF does not really feel like IM besides a couple songs.  I still very much like TFF, but it does sit on the bottom half of IM albums for me.

I think Dance of Death is a great album but I wouldn't call it a breath of fresh air or anything. It's pretty standard fair for Maiden.

This.

Its still a great album though, Journeyman and Paschendale are two must-hear songs.
