To be fair, AMoLAD literally isn't mastered.

but the production is horrible.
I'd say it actually has fantastic production; definitely the best production of any of the post-reunion albums.

Really?  I think it's absolutely horrible.  It's only slightly better than DOD.

I read in an interview recently that Steve said DoD, AMOLAD, and TFF all were mastered but very slightly. All of them were pretty much right out of the control room.

I don't understand this ignorance on Steve's behalf.  They need to get them mastered properly, the music just suffers for it IMO.  Lucky it is Maiden and they have such good material that it does carry them through.

Yeah exactly. He likes what he hears in the control room and wants us to hear the same. This is a genuine attitude, but he's just not hearing it right I guess? Mastering is totally essential, as long as it's done within reason.

I like the sound of all the post reunion records. I don't know, guess I'm nuts, but I understand that live sound idea. They are very much a live band and they don't require any cheating. What you hear on the records is what you get. I mean, I love a good mastering as much as the next guy, but Maiden's music isn't nearly fast or low-tuned enough to even require all that much of a tight mastering job. Their records just sound like a good 70's record with a better mic-ing set up.

I completely agree with all of that. I love the sound of their post-reunion albums.

Listening to TFF now, it's up on Spotify already! :D First few tracks are decent, pretty straightforward (aside from the intro) as expected, but good stuff still.

I thought they didnt master AMOLAD at all becuase they wanted a "live" sound.  I cant say I had much of an issue with any of their albums, but TFF sounds like AMOLAD, but worse. Bruce just sounds bad on this album and his voice is too loud.  I know I definitely need more listens, but this is what I thought from my first listen.

Agreed.

It took me a while, but now I don't even notice the lack of mastering and they sound fine. :)

About the production: TFF doesn't sound as good as AMOLAD, but still better than DOD. Most of the instruments are fine, the drums lack some punch, though. All in all, the album still sounds better than many other rock/metal albums released in the past ten years.

Starblind and Coming Home are my favourites so far, with The Man Who Would Be King close behind. The only real letdown is Mother Of Mercy's chorus imo.

The album is growing on me, I am enjoying it more each time I listen.

I must repeat, the production is crap.  What really annoys me, is the obvious sloppily looped double kick in Satellite 15, and Bruce's horrible double tracked vocals on the last chorus on The Final Frontier.  Come on, why would you double track those vocal takes when the totally don't match up.

Man this is so bad huh?  I was hoping there was just something wrong with the version I had.  Gonna head down and buy a copy tomorrow.

I find that the sound of AMoLAD heavily depends on the system I'm listening to it on, moreso that most albums. On non-expensive headphones it sounds kind of weak, but on good headphones or a good stereo system, it sounds pretty great.

Bought the special edition at best buy before work today, the sound is better than the mp3s I downloaded which makes me less negative towards the production, however, I need more listens to give opinoons of the songs themselves.

Frankly, anyone who judges production while listening to MP3's is pulling a really really stupid move. I'm not trying to attack you specifically, but I see it all the time and it's *really* annoying to see.

That's what I want to know as well. I bought the CD today, and it sounds lovely. I like the booklet, but I just wonder why there is only one picture of band members. And even that one features them in shadow.
