Yeah I wasn't too impressed at first but after a proper listen I can say its rather good.  Haven't listened to the last two songs yet though.

they're pretty much the best 2, so if you already think it's rather good...

Ha!  I was just about to post about how awesome TMWWBK is.  The solo section: :hefdaddy

TMWWBK is actually my least favorite epic on the album.  Just above TFF and MoM at the bottom.

MoM is good, though the chorus gets a little grating.  I know it gets mentioned a lot here, but its the only Maiden song where the whole repetitive chorus things gets to me.

Well, I pretty much just dislike NML as a whole.  The chorus isn't particularly annoying.  I think with MoM the chorus is bad because its in Bruce's higher register and gets pretty whiny to my ears.

I dig Starblind and Talisman a lot, I enjoy Isle of Avalon and TMWWBK, I also like WTWWB but not as much as the other fans seem to. Coming Home is good as well. I just myself enjoying the longer songs a lot more. I think Adrian is the man of the album. Janick and Dave have also contributed two very good tracks. Going to buy the album when it comes out and when I have the money.

MY first impression of TFF is that it sounds like all of the leftovers from the last three albums.  It's all of the Wildest Dreams and Different Worlds without the masterpieces like Paschendale or DoD.  I've only listened to it once, so it'll probably grow on me somewhat, but there hasn't been anything that really grabbed me by the balls like AMoLaD.

The real highlight thus far is when WtWWB gets heavy, about 7 minutes in.  That was the only time it really made me go FUCK YEAH!.

I also noticed that Satellite 15 reminds me a lot of old-skool Anthrax, circa Persistence of Time.  And interestingly, as the second part of it, I like TFF much better than when it was only a standalone track.
Argument, the presentation of reasonable views, never makes headway against conviction, and conviction takes no part in argument because it knows.

Okey, almost finished with my first listen (bought the album earlier today)... and i'm not quite sure what to think.
It didn't start out that WOW imo, but it has gotten better.. i'm now at The Man Who Would Be King, and the second half of the album has been better then the first half IMO.
Overall i haven't found a song yet that's <3 at first listen, but normally albums take time to grow on me, and i'm pretty sure i will change my mind about it after a few plays. :)

does anyone else hear actually dream theater influences on this album? the progressive aspect is very interesting. while i'm not too best friends with the vocals and some of the riffing, the breaks and solo stuff realyl stand sout imo. definitely a lot of stuff maiden hasnt done before.

Yeah. I wouldn't exactly call them "Dream Theater" influences, because there are a lot fo prog-metal bands that play in odd time signatures, but there are definitely a few moments in the longer songs that are proggy and that Maiden hasn't done before. I, personally, think they're awesome!

I'd say there are some Genesis, King Crimson and Rush influences, but certainly not Dream Theater ones.

I've dabbled through TFF. I'm pretty indifferent so far!

At times I was like, "This is amazing!" At other times, "Wow, this sounds incredibly mediocre." We'll see how my perception goes over time. I still need to give it a true listen though.

Did you people who have it now order it online or does it just come out in stores earlier?
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"

I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

This is my thoughts exactly.  Parts of it on first listen I found extremely underwhelming.

I can't believe how different this album is.

I'd also like to add that the special edition is absolute shit!!!

My rankings are changing all the time but here goes;

1. Starblind
2. When the Wild Winds Blow
3. The Alchemist
4. The Talisman
5. The Man Who Would Be King
6. Isle of Avalon
7. Coming Home
8. Satellite 15...The Final Frontier
9. Mother of Mercy
10. El Dorado

Not too impressed about the production again.  Steve needs to stay out of the control room.  They also need to ditch Shirley, get a proper producer and produce a sonically great sounding album.  The production brings the album down IMO, it's almost as bad as DOD.

So I got my first listen and I am extremely dissapointed.  While I am yet to give the album a good listen, my first thoughts on what I heard were, "this is maiden?" just really not what I expected.  I don't sense any energy in this album.  It just sounds soft to me.  Maybe I need to listen to the CD when I get it on Tuesday, but the production is horrible.  Maybe my expectations were too high.

I'd say it actually has fantastic production; definitely the best production of any of the post-reunion albums.

I haven't heard the whole song yet, but from what I heard in that video they released, I though the same exact thing.

However, (and this came completely out of the blue,) I've had the chorus stuck in my head all day.

What's the production like? I remember not caring for the production on AMoLaD when I first listened to it.
