I gave it a quick listen when I was home for lunch earlier today. As usual it will take many listens before it sinks in (it's not as immediate as their 80s stuff) but it sounds promising.

Also extremely glad that they have finally kicked the repeating chorus syndrome.

Yeah, thats something I noticed (except for TFF) too!  Thank (the greater good of) God.

Another thing to be thankful for: no overused soft intros/outros.

Honestly, I find El Dorado the weakest on the album, and The Final Frontier is second weakest. Anyone who was left skeptical after hearing the singles need not worry. The Man Who Would Be King and The Talisman are my favourites, closely followed by When the Wild Wind Blows and Starblind. I can see WTWWB quickly becoming a live favourite in the same vein as Fear of the Dark, having very catchy melodies that a crowd of 10 000 or even 5 drunks would enjoy singing along. The Alchemist is extremely fun and has the feel of The Pilgrim mixed with someone off of Killers. Mother of Mercy has a great evil chorus. Coming Home is a nice ballad, more intricate than Out of the Shadows. Isle of Avalon I'm still working my way into.

So this is a really dumb question and I swear I tried to find the answer somewhere but couldn't. What bonus content is included on the 'mission edition?'

Really?  There are tons of those on this album.  Not as many as AMOLAD, but still.

I often like their soft intros/outros. They add nice contrast and often build up and hit hard when the heavy part comes in. Fear of the Dark, Dance of Death, and Paschendale are perfect examples of this.

I'd rather not have every newer Maiden song sound exactly the same.

First listen done, and...wow.. I think i love it more than AMOLAD, and i freggin' loved that one!
Not a single weak track as far as im concerned, and the highlights are actually hard to choose, because there are so many!
The alchemist and The man who would be king are probably my lesser favorites, besides the two everybody already have heard, but those tracks are killer as well! :metal

It'll take a few more listens before I can form a solid opinion of the album, but for first impressions, I liked it. It may very well be in contention for best post-reunion album.

Agreed. This is at least equal to Brave New World, even if it isn't greater.

I meant that there's a repeating soft intro/outro where they're the same.  They were so overused on AMOLAD.  They were on 6 tracks (These Colours Don't Run, BTATS, The Longest Day, ROBB, FTGGOG, and The Legacy) as opposed to solely When the Wild Wind Blows on the new album.

The lyrics for "When the Wild Wind Blows" are undoubtedly the bleakest of Maiden's career.

The Blu-Ray of Flight 666 is a gift from the metal gods.  Such an awesome thing and it was only 15 bucks.

Loving H's solo over the 7/8 section in Isle of Avalon.  Feels like Alexander the Great.  Awesome.

they're pretty much the best 2, so if you already think it's rather good...
