Seventh Son has a lot of weak tracks.

Can I Play With Madness is crap, and Seventh Son and Prophecy aren't much better. Only the Good Die Young is an alright closer, and while Moonchild has grown on me a bit it is still subpar for Maiden opening tracks.

The leaves two amazing tracks and one alright track.

I think I need to take a break form the computer after this fail overdose.

This.

AMOLAD - Brighter Than a Thousand Suns

Wow that's different! I consider Brighter... to be the best song on the album.

Very similar to my list, except for Killers.  Stylistically, we seem to be on the same page.

No love for Virtual XI?  :( I definitely won't put it on the top, but does deserve some space in the middle of my ranking.

1. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
2. Powerslave
3. Somewhere in Time
4. Piece of Mind
5. The Number of the Beast
6. Dance of Death
7. Virtual XI
8. Killers
9. Brave New World
10. Fear of the Dark
11. Iron Maiden
12. The X Factor
13. No Prayer for the Dying
14. A Matter of Life and Death

For the record...I do like AMOLAD, but it just sometimes bores the crap out of me.

I did this quickly, I've never really thought about it. Some rankings are affected by a nostalgia factor (ie when I got them), as opposed to what actually might be my current preferences.

1. Piece of Mind
2. The Number of the Beast
3. Iron Maiden
4. Powerslave
5. A Matter of Life and Death
6. Dance of Death
7. Killers
8. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
9. Brave New World
10. Somewhere in Time
11. Fear of the Dark
12. The X Factor
13. Virtual XI
14. No Prayer for the Dying

I still can't decide if I want to know the songs they're playing this tour ahead of time, or if I don't.

No choice for me, and it's actually kind of amusing.

After reading El Barto's post, I thought of this: Please don't post any tour set list spoilers unless it's in very very small text (not small enough to still make out the letters, small enough where quoting is necessary).

Agreed.  Usually I like to know the setlist, but I think for this tour since I have no idea at all of whats getting played, I am going to try to wait till July 11th to find out, same with DT. As for ranks... the top is harder than the bottom:

1. Somewhere in Time
2. Powerslave
3. A Matter of Life and Death
4. Brave New World
5. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
6. Dance of Death
7. Piece of Mind
8. The Number of the Beast

11. The X Factor
12. Fear of the Dark
14. No Prayer for the Dying
14. Virtual 11

It pretty much has to be.  They haven't released any details about the album besides the name and they are about to start a tour, its time to release some info!

I just read the tour press release from a few months ago again, and I caught this:
Quote
We're still working on the set list for these summer shows, but this time it will cover the whole history of the band, and I can hint that we will be playing a taster from the new album. We already have the designs for the new Final Frontier stage show which we are building to bring out with us, so this summer tour will be a bit of a preview for the fans. It's certainly looking very spectacular at this stage and with a brand new Eddie and an amazing light show!

So, we can expect songs from Iron Maiden through The Final Frontier, which opens up the setlist options enormously. We'll also be seeing a new stage show with a new Eddie (probably the cyborg/robot one from the tour pictures). Kind of like a new version of Somewhere In Time's Eddie. Speculation on any of these points?

I envy the people that are gonna see my two favorite metal bands together. Being rather modest, I'll be satisfied by watching a couple of youtube clips and seeing the set lists.  :)

I'm sure you won't, but please don't post any spoilers of any kind unless it's in size 2 font. That goes for everyone else here as well. And don't take this as a commanding, overpowering statement, because it's not, just a friendly reminder .

Or we could just start another thread where spoilers are allowed, like we have going for Rush right now.

No matter, I rank them as I feel.  To me '80's Maiden put out a lot of great songs, but very few great packages.  Too much of the same cookie cutter album makes it really drab stuff after awhile.  Bruce leaving was a great thing to happen to Maiden as they've been much more interesting since that happened.

Really, my top four are the complete albums I think they've put out:

The X Factor
Brave New World
Killers
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

...after that they had some great albums with weak writing on a few songs

Piece of Mind
Virtual XI
Dance of Death
Iron Maiden

...and then lots of cookie cutter filler accompanying some great songs

Powerslave
Number of the Beast
Somewhere in Time

...and then way too much blah

Fear of the Dark
No Prayer for the Dying
