Oh! Why floating? Is that some known nickname for Purgatory?

Floating was the first incarnation of Purgatory.  I remember reading that in Run to the Hills. "When you see me/floating up beside you".

Drifter and Purgatory are two songs hidden right at the end of Killers, and both are awesome tracks IMO. There are some great live versions of both as bonus tracks in the Killers singles.

Drifter always seemed to pass me by, but Purgatory - I guess being that there are so many awesome tracks on Killers it gets sorta buried - but its such a fantastic song.  Blistering, thrashy pace but with an awesome melodic chorus with awesome guitar/vocal interplay.

Drifter never really did much for me also, but Purgatory would be easily top 3 on the album.

I was inclined to say the same thing, but there's no way I could bump Ides of March/Wrathchild, Prodigal Son, Killers and Murders in the Rue Morgue from the top 4.  Purgatory sits around 5-6 for me, but that's only because Killers is so damn good.

I love it!  Great guitar solos and bridge section.  It was the first Maiden bassline I ever learnt too, at the ripe old age of 11  ;D

Is that your top 3?  I think with a lot of the killers songs there are way better live versions of them.  Most of them with Bruce on vocals.

Yes, those would be my favorite from Killers, which is a GREAT album.

Wrathchild is great live, but honestly I would be fine if I never heard it again.

I listened to Beast Over Hammersmith a couple of weeks ago, wow what a great live album.

It really is an incredible live album. As I said a couple years ago in my Top 25 Iron Maiden Songs list, it has the absolute greatest version of Phantom of the Opera ever. Bruce is absolutely on fire there. :2metal:

Beast Over Hammersmith is awesome. It's a shame it didn't get a more widespread release (the CD I mean). I'd take it over any of the other live albums any day (except Rock In Rio).

Yes, Beast over Hammersmith!  I remember ripping the audio from the Hammersmith show songs on the 12 Wasted Years VHS to Minidisc back in the 90s just to able to listen to that album on run.  Bruce sounds like such a young buck on it, love his delivery on that album.  I'd probably rate it my third fave live one behind LaD and Maiden England (because, nostalgia.  Even though the performances are a little hit and miss in places).

Had Killers in the car cd changer for the last couple of weeks. Just a great album from start to finish. I don't even miss Bruce on it as the delivery is just right for the songs. Its just one of those classic albums that needs to be played whole for me.
It only made no 24 in my top 50 but iys a far better album than that would suggest.

Edit: Seriously, it sounds amazing!

Oh, definitely.  Paul sounds great on the albums and his tone is very much a part of it's charm.  Bruce just sings them better :lol

On a level of pure technical performance, Beast over Hammersmith is easily Iron Maiden's best live album. Its weakness comes from the setlist, I think, since it's so damn early in the band's history (if I recall correctly, it was actually recorded even before Number of the Beast had been released).

I do like that live album very much. I'd rather play that one than Life after death or Maiden England, to be honest. But my favorites are still the later day ones, such as Rock in Rio and Flight 666. En Vivo is also great.

It is. That said, I'm actually not sure what song I think is Maiden's best opener. Probably Moonchild. :metal
