Listening to Piece of Mind a lot lately . . . and I can't get over the fact that on most of the tunes, you can't hear the bass drum AT ALL. I mean, what the heck? TNOTB had a thunderous bass drum sound (Prisoner intro for example) but POM loses quite a bit of punch because of that deficiency.  Of course, whatever there was of it is buried under Nicko's OCD spamming of the ride cymbal. Great album anyway.

The mix is generally pretty bad.  Still a classic album though.

No point when they aren't releasing albums.  I'd rather a petition for the band to get their asses in the studio.

Actually, a petition to use a different producer would be more productive, who gives a shit about the covers.

I do and have been since I first discovered IM. Looking at their covers and finding hidden messages and nuggetz was a big part of Maiden for me, atleast when I was younger. Looking at the SbiT vinyl while listening to the music was one of the reasons why Maiden stood out from other bands back in the day. That was something Derek Riggs did amazingly well.
When I look at the The Final Frontier cover for example it's just dead to me, nothing that makes it alive or adventures.

I also don't dig future Eddie, I just can't. Call it "caught in nostalgica" or whatever, that's just my opinion. Derek Riggs was immensly important back in the day. Unfourtunately buying albums and especially looking at the cover is a dying trend these days it seems, yes vinyls are a thing which is cool of course but not as big though as CDs and digital downloading.

Compared to this:

or this:

There's so much happening in the periphery. Kind of like how detailed Don Rosa would do it.
So I would love for Riggs to come back but I don't think that would ever happen.

Im also not a big fan of TFF cover or art work as well as DoD's, but I like AMoLaD and BNW's.  Those album covers are great IMO.  I understand people werent crazy about the new Eddie's, but I just see it as an evolution of Eddie just like the evolution of the music.

Id also rather see a petition for them to make more music or to tour more (and have more diverse set lists) as those to me are way more important than an artist who is not really needed since they arent releasing anything.

Sounds good to me. Of all the bands in the world, Iron Maiden is the one I trust the most. And I'm pretty sure they'll be heading to the studio this fall to work on new music. The cover will probably be fine, especially after AMOLAD and TFF, which are two of my favorite Maiden album covers.

Fucking this.

Seriously, I get that the older covers a a lot better than the newer ones, but a petition like this is fucking stupid.  Does anyone really think the band would give a shit anyway?  And if they did use Derek again, it would be because they chose to, not a stupid bunch of people having cry over it.

Surely Maiden fans would understand now that the band doesn't give a fuck and does every thing their way, no compromise.  It's been that way since 76, nothings gonna change now.

I couldn't care less about a petition and Maiden will certainly not care about it. If DR is invited back by the band I would be happy of course but I don't see that ever happen.

No, I don't think so either.  If for some reason they collaborated again, it would indeed be great.

Meh. As long as Steve is in the band, the albums are going to have shit production.

Uhm, I was going to post something stupid like: didn´t Riggs die in ´88 or something, but he´s alive and well, even has a facebook page!

Some work of his:

Didn't Riggs stop working for Maiden because he felt the band (read Rod Smallwood) was ripping him off? He was under contract to IM, and when that ended, the band suggested he submit stuff unpaid, and they'd only pay him if they used it. He walked.

He's done loads of stuff for then since - the most recent being the Flight 666 poster where Eddie is ripping the top of the plane - but they've never used it as the "black and white photo collage" look was obviously better(?).

Yeah I think that, coupled with the unrealistic time frames he was given to complete the art, was why he left.  I read somewhere that sometimes he apparently had to carry wet paintings in taxi's to take to Rod at his beck and call.

I just realised how the artwork to TFF is almost like a reimagining of the FOTD artwork.  Hm.  Well 'reimagining' might be a stretch.  I think its just Eddie's position on the cover.

Both were painted by Melvyn Grant. That might be part of it.

Riggs was apparently treated pretty poorly by Maiden's management. He is not nice to them on his website.

The story behind the Flight 666 painting is that Maiden would only pay him if they ended up using it, Riggs was not ok with that and didn't give it to them to use. That painting is actually unfinished, after he got that offer he stopped working on it.

For those that are interested, Iron Maiden are releasing vinyl reissues this fall.

https://bravewords.com/news/iron-maiden-classic-80s-vinyl-reissues-on-the-way-details-revealed

Look awesome, especially the singles series. Love the Collector's Box.

Personally, I'm not interested.. But it looks like a great collection.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol
