That's... quite a good setlist. The only song that I'm really sad about not being on it is Killers. Afraid to Shoot Strangers may be from a different time, but it's an awesome song that deserved some stage time again really badly, so I'm cool with that.

The lack of Infinite Dreams is a travesty.
And I'm still upset about the lack of Caught Somewhere In Time on the SBiT tour.

And YES, CIPWM is a suckfest.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

That we can agree on. However, I don't find Infinite Dreams to be that exciting.

I am not as big of a fan of the SSoaSS album as lots of you, and due to diminished funds, decided to skip this tour after catching them on their last 2 stops here. Don’t feel too bad after seeing the setlist, but goddamn for not being able to see Phantom – that is my #1 Maiden song.  :sadpanda:

I just watched a video on IM's Facebook page featuring this tour's Eddies. Wow, man. There are a lot and they are spectacular. I'm almost willing to set aside my qualms with the setlist to get excited about the stage show.

It hasn't been performed since Blaze was in the band.

Speaking of Blaze, I'd really like them to perform Sign of the Cross once again. I really like the atmospheric use of the choir at the beginning.

It's probably my all time fav Maiden song.  They should perform it, but IMO Bruce doesn't do it justice.

Well, to my eternal shame, I don't have the Bayley albums, so I have to check that out again, as it's been a while since I last heard it.

I'll get back to you with this.

heh, I think Bruce slays it live. Rock in Rio is my favorite version of that song, easily.

Curious to know if anyone here is an Iron Maiden fan club member. Does anyone know if the fan club gets access to photos from the shows? I'm dying to see photos and videos from the show last night but they only have a few on their site available to the measly public.

King, I'm happy to see that you have TFF and AMOLAD so high on your list!

Powerslave is painfully low. The rest is fine, imho.
Honestly, I've never been a huge Powerslave guy. I remember when it came out, I thought it was a big disappointment. I came very close to blowing off the tour!
I thought it was fairly generic. I thought the middle of 2 Minutes was a bit contrived, and I thought Rime was long for long's sake.
Those were my first impressions.

I must say that it has aged quite nicely and I like it a lot. Albums 6-11 on my list are basically interchangeable.

1. Somewhere in time
When this came out, I was convinced it was the best thing they've done. If you were to ask me to list their albums in 1987, Somewhere In Time would've easliy won. It just hasn't aged for me. I rarely listen to it. That said, Caught Somewhere In Time is my #3 Maiden song!

Well, since everyone is happily ranking albums, I might as well add my 0.02$.

1. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
2. Powerslave
3. A Matter of Life and Death
4. Somewhere in Time
5. Piece of Mind
6. The Number of the Beast
7. The Final Frontier
8. Killers
9. Brave New World
10. Iron Maiden
11. Dance of Death
12. Fear of the Dark
13. No Prayer for the Dying

Haven't heard the Blaze-era stuff often enough to form an opinion on that. Sign of the Cross is awesome, though.

EDIT: After listening to IM a lot today, I have to place SSoaSS slightly over Powerslave.

You know, I thought BNW was pretty good. I really liked DoD, but AMOLAD blew me away! I did not think they had an album in them like that. Then TFF is just a brighter extension of AMOLAD. Incredible. Two of the best albums they've EVER done.

I really like AMOLAD and TFF as well, but I think that AMOLAD is a bit better, especially The Legacy and For the Greater Good of God are really awesome.

However, TFF probably has my favourite IM track since Sign of the Cross (Isle of Avalon), so it's very close. Two truly awesome albums.  :tup

Amen to that.  AMOLAD had everything I loved with Maiden with a modern sound to it.  Really an extension from the Maiden in the 80's.

On a side note: a friend that I introduced to Maiden said that they were quite cool, but that it pissed him off quite a bit that nearly every song from the most recent albums (BNW, DoD, AMOLAD and TFF) starts with calm guitars, then gets heavy and reverts to calm at the very end and that that gets boring quickly. I only actively noticed that after he had said it, but it didn't bother me.

Thoughts?

It's a common complaint, and a legitamite one at that. It didn't just starts with the last 4 albums either. It's Steve's style of writing epics, dating back to To Tame A Land and Alexander The Great.

True, but it's gotten a lot more frequent on recent albums. On AMOLAD, I think (off the top of my head), there are three songs that don't follow that style (Different World, The Pilgrim, Out of the Shadows), whereas you might have one or two on past albums (again, off the top of my head, Still Life and To Tame a Land on POM, and that's it).

Anyway, I'm not complaining - I actually think that Maiden manage to do that style very well. I was just curious what other people were thinking.

Just looking over the merch I love how much Somewhere in Time related stuff they have, either in full or partially. They are playing 3 times as much material from The Number of the Beast, and three times as much (in total length) from Fear of the Dark, and yet somehow they get off acting as if this tour has anything to do with the SiT era.

It is. The setlist is pretty close to the Maiden England stuff, with SSoaSS and The Prisoner being played again. Thankfully, they didn't play Heaven Can Wait. One of the worst Maiden songs, imho.

Wait, I thought they were saying this tour was more like the Seventh Son tour?

Maiden England specifically, which was the tour for Seventh Son. They did the right thing by having a lot of Seventh Son material in of course, but considering the first four albums got really well represented on the early days tour, Powerslave was represented on the Somewhere Back in Time Tour (while SiT just had the same two fucking songs they'd always play played), and this tour was the last chance to really get at least SOMETHING rare from that fucking album played, seeings as it was the one before Seventh Son. But no, as always, just more of the same.
