Glad to see the set list, I'd have been disappointed if I went and they didn't play Second Life Syndrome, Out of Myself or Volte-Face (as a newcomer to the band) and I've been struggling with deciding whether to go to a show 90 minutes away on my own that I can't afford the night before I fly to a different country so that made me feel a bit better about deciding not to go :) Egoist Hedonist, New Generation Slave and 02 Panic Room woulda been incredible to see, though.
Every story needs to have an ending, we might as well give up all this pretending and clear the air...

I once saw a Riverside show where they started it off with The Same River.
You lucky bastard.

Same here, and I was surprised too because SLS had just been released at that time. I think 'The Same River' is still my favorite Riverside track. 'The Curtain Falls' is awesome as well. The first record Out of Myself did the atmospheric thing quite well.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

I haven't been a fan for a long time, but now that I've had all the albums for a while I can post a ranking:

OOM
SLS
ADHD
SONGS
REM

Haven't heard that one, since it's just an EP... Is it worth getting?

Yeah, it's an EP. I'd say it's definitely worth getting.

It's three songs, but they're all about ten minutes, so the total running time's over half an hour.

Both EP's they have put out are really good, but Memories in My Head especially.  :)

I have Voices in My Head, it's in the box set that includes the first three albums and some extra stuff.

Brah, it's my second fave album from them, even though it's an EP.

Just recently got into this band, I listened to their two most recent albums and love them both.
I'm not sure if I like the more atmospheric style of SONGS or the more traditional prog-metal style of ADHD more, but needless to say I'll be checking out the rest of their albums soon.

You pretty much can't go wrong with any of their studio albums, especially the last few.  I'm not always a fan of their production choices, but they're definitely worth checking out.

Now that I think of it, they're actually pretty unique.  And that's not easy these days.

I would probably rank the albums something like this:

Second Life Syndrome = Anno Domini High Definition > Out of Myself > Rapid Eye Movement > Shrine of New Generation Slaves

They're all really good though. Also, make sure you check out both EP's; Voices in my Head and Memories in my Head.

Oh but I usually listen to them. It's just I didn't check out the last one and it really amazed me. Even more Out Of Myself, which is/was actually my favourite - still early enough to say if the new one will take its place  - but a great record indeed.

I don't know if we have a separate thread for Lunatic Soul, if we do I couldn't find it.

Anyway, according to Mariusz Duda's FaceBook page, Lunatic Soul's fourth album will be released in 2014. :woot:

Just stopping by to tell you all that S.O.N.G.S might be the band's best album, or very close. There is nothing wrong with it, and it seems like it flies by very quickly. The 'Night Session' bonus disc is also awesome. S.O.N.G.S. has aged very well, IMO.

SONGS is fine, but I would say it's one of their weaker albums. That's no shame though, considering the band has put out some really good albums. Personally I consider Second Life Syndrome and Anno Domini to be their best, with Rapid Eye Movement a close third. Out of Myself is really good too.

I'd probably agree with you, ADHD is my favorite (and maybe the best), and SLS "is" the best, but not my favorite. I haven't been listening to Riverside, or prog rock/metal, for a long time, so maybe the fresh ears are adding something to it, but I recall enjoying S.O.N.G.S. when it came out, because of how much they've moved away from their older sound (first 3 albums and EP). So far, ADHD is a more unique album in the band's catalog, and maybe why it's my favorite. However, they have a warmer sound now, not sure how to describe it, it's been developing since the Memories In My Head EP. Less reliance on riffs, more pretty chords, jazz influence, which is where my general tastes have been going anyway.

lol the album title abbbreviates to "songs"
legit album name right there
welcome to the club.
To be honest though SONGS is a good abbreviation for the album because that's all it ever felt like to me, a collection of songs that wasn't very cohesive nor particularly good. I still like Deprived and Escalator Shrine is pretty good too but I haven't relistened to the album in a while and probably won't do so any time soon either.

Calling out your immediate about face aside, I'm with Zantera.  When I want to listen to Riverside, SONGS might be my last choice, but again that has more to do with the strength of their other albums and EP.

Haha, well my initial comments were more of a reaction to listening to Riverside for the first time in a while, it just happened to be S.O.N.G.S.

I still stand by my opinion that it is a strong album, but when thinking about their other albums, SONGS may just be the weakest, next to the third album. However, all their albums are great, and strong, I don't think they've made a mediocre album yet. SONGS might just be a sleeper album. I never said SONGS was my favorite, but it's growing to be one of them.

I feel like it's a shame that Rapid Eye Movement doesn't get more love. Beyond the Eyelids and Ultimate Trip are both top5 Riverside songs imo. And the rest of the album is pretty great as well.
