Hey, everybody's got different taste.

Of course, I'm not into guys in the first place, so I'm not sure why I bothered to ask.  :P

Got my 2-CD special edition digibook in the mail today from Burning Shed! Only took 16 days to get across the pond, but it came in one (pristine) piece, and the packaging is absolutely awesome! I hope everyone else gets theirs soon!

I received my first Riverside CD (ADHD) in the mail last week, and I'm liking it - not the most grounbreaking or unique stuff in the world, but the songwriting is pretty good! I've heard their earlier stuff is more atmospheric, so maybe I could like it even more?

Well, if you are into atmospheric music you should definitely check SONGS and Out Of Myself out. You are going to like them  :tup

I'll be honest, three listens in and I think it's my least favorite Riverside album.  Then again, the competition is extremely strong.

SLS
ADHD
OoM
SoNGS
REM

That's where I'm at right now I think. And I'd say the new album is rather good, but that top 3, and top 2 especially is just really hard to get near.

They've just announced new tour dates effectively making a little circle 'round Serbia. Not a surprise.

ADHD
Second Life Syndrome
Memories In My Head
SoNGS (well, I haven't bought it, yet!)

How badly do I need their other 2 albums, and the other EP?

True. Most Americans have a 50% shot in identifying Lichtenstein on a map, Serbia... not so much. :D

Well, their debut contains my favourite Riverside song, The Same River, so I'd definitely suggest getting that. Rapid Eye Movement is very good as well, though it is similar in stlye to SLS and Out of Myself.

Yeah, but we're still getting Rammstein, Roger Waters, Green day, Whitesnake and Depeche mode. I think we're pretty well off.  ;D

Of course, there are plenty of bands that are constantly circling around us, but that's because they're usually smaller here than in the rest of Europe. Promoters are practically afraid of going out of business after pulling a stunt that is bringing a band like Riverside to Belgrade. I remember the guys that had to shut down their business after Stratovarious and Gamma ray only gathered 250 people respectively. Still, Metallica managed to bring 30000 fans, thank God.  ;D

The problem is, all the bands I would like to see live are in the size category of bands that never tour or never tour Serbia :-\

I'm in the same boat as you, living in Australia, we don't get a lot of bands coming here and of course being a remote country, tickets are pretty expensive.

Yup. Same reason many great bands don't tour America. Difference is in places like America we tend to have money, but with no interest in good music, whereas in places like Serbia, South America etc the interest is generally there, but without the financial backing.

Back in the day things were structured so most good bands could hit the road hard taking losses and eventually recoup the money (most of the financials handled through the label), but today it just doesn't happen. You can pay to tour all you want but it will end up with you nowhere most of the time.

Yup. And I totally understand that, fans here really are every bit as crazy as the SA crowds but it just doesn't pay off.

My wife just bought the deluxe edition of SONGS for me.    :heart

First listen of disc 1 completely blew me away.   ADHD is my favorite Riverside album (and easily one of my favorite albums) but I was immediate thrilled that they didn't try to rehash it.    It's completely different in style and feel.   A breath of fresh air.

I can't wait to hear it a few more times.

Going back to work and trying to get caught up on music has been hard!  In the last month I've gotten both new BTBAM's, both new Coheed and Cambria's, the deluxe edition of Marbles by Marillion, the new CD from Voivod and now I've got SONGS to listen to and PoS' Road Salt 1 deluxe edition is in the mail as well.    It's just *A LOT* to digest all at once.   Especially since it's all so vastly different from each other.

Here's the set from the SONGS tour. I'm kinda disappointed because there is pretty much nothing from OOM and SLS. Still, they got Egoist Hedonist and Living In The Past.

New Generation Slave
The Depth of Self-Delusion
Feel Like Falling
Driven to Destruction
We Got Used to Us
Living in the Past
Egoist Hedonist
02 Panic Room
(Epilogue)
Escalator Shrine
Left Out
Celebrity Touch

Bummer that my two favourite Riverside songs (The Same River and Second Life Syndrome) aren't included. I mean, giving how long they are, it's kinda understandable, but at least one of them should have been in the set, imho.

^ perhaps it's the extra bit at the end of "O2 Panic Room" with the clean guitar, piano and vocals.

also: "Rapid Eye Movement" should have been on its album. amazing piece of music.

I once saw a Riverside show where they started it off with The Same River. Love that vibe. Same goes for 'The Curtain Falls' and portions of SLS (title track).

I think all their records are at least good, but I really have something for the atmosphere of OOS.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .
