It's good, but underwhelming to me so far.  Take that with a grain of salt, though, because I say that about 90% of the stuff I come to like a lot.

The beginning of Escalator Shrine gives me the biggest Riders On The Storm vibe.

Also, I think I'd rate this one a nine or something. Really nooby of me to start the year off with nines already but that's how good it is :D

They're sort of like Anathema and Porcupine Tree, but also a bit heavier at times...but spacey/atmospheric as well.

If you like the two bands I listed above, then definitely get in to these guys!

-Marc.
As a big fan of both PT and Anathema I assume I should try Riverside?

Interesting. I find them more like Tool that either PT or Anathema. The last two albums are going a different way though

Yes. Though Riverside is miles ahead of both bands (IMHO, of course).

I think they have a bit of all three while still sounding unique. The Tool-influence to me can be found in their more rhythmical stuff, because Tool's music is a lot about rhythm and almost hypnotizing/mesmerizing chord progressions. I think it's more noticeable in some of their longer songs like "Dance With the Shadow", which has a few parts like that. (The "Join in the shadow dance"-part for example)

Regarding the PT-influence I think it's easy to hear both eras of PT in Riverside. "Volte-Face" has an intro which reminds me quite a lot of Signify, and the first time I heard the song, that was the first thing to pop up in my mind. I think the first three albums in particular has a certain progressive sound that isn't miles away from what PT did on Signify for example. But on the other hand you have a song like "Conceiving You" which sounds like it could be very influenced from SW's newer ballad-songs, something from IA or Deadwing for example. Speaking of songs that sounds similiar to PT, "Driven to Desctruction" and So Called Friend anyone?

It's a bit tricker with the Anathema-influence, because I don't think that one is something you hear as much as the music reminds you of Anathema, and their way of making progressive music. A melody here or there, the dark and almost depressive atmosphere you can find on the earlier Riverside-albums.

But yeah, I'd also say a bit of Dream Theater-ness as well. Riverside aren't as flashy or technical, but they can craft long songs like few bands can. There's pretty much long epics on all albums, songs like "Ultimate Trip" (13 mins), "Second Life Syndrome" (15 mins), "The Same River" (12 mins), "Left Out" (11 mins), "Hybrid Times" (12 mins) and "Forgotten Land" (10 mins) are all pretty much among the best songs the band has made. Add to that "Escalator Shrine" (13 mins) from the new album which is awesome.

So yeah, you're in for a treat. :P

Well, that's not a bad thing as I like Tool too.

Anyway, I listened to a couple of songs from ADHD and I definitely liked what I heard! This band is like the missing link between the progginess of DT and the atmospheric approach of Katatonia, Anathema and the likes. DTF is once again expanding my musical taste and I guess my wallet will soon be shrinking as well! :lol

Yesterday I rated this one 9.6/10. I am usually generuous with votes, but I really feel this one will stick for a while and will be an extremely strong contender for the eventual 2013 Championship Finals together with SW's and hopefully DT12  :)

I can't rank the new Riverside yet since I've only heard it twice and I've been a bit busy, but so far my top3 for this year would be SW, Coheed and Cult of Luna, so if it breaks into top 3 and pushes Cult of Luna out, then it's awesome. :P

They sound like they could've come straight from Lunatic Soul II.  In other words, they're electronic songs.

i feel like the Lunatic Soul vibe is all over the record, though. it's extremely dynamic yet generally more relaxed than before.

very pleased overall (thought i was gonna hate it). the only songs i'm not into are "Feel Like Falling" and parts of "Celebrity Touch" and "Escalator Shrine," but the rest of the record is full of new Riverside highlights.

the "Night Sessions" tracks are what sealed the deal for me. start your listen with the first one and put the other on the end!

Man, I love this album now.  Haha.  New Generation Slave, The Depth of Self-Delusion, We Got Used to Us, Escalator Shrine, and Coda all = gold.  I think it's the first time ever where my favorite track is the really short one (Coda).

I think this album is the definition of a "grower". First time I heard it, it didn't really stand out. But after 5-6 listens, this album is really good. Hard to pick favorites since I think the whole album flows together nicely, but "The Depth of Self-Delusion", "Deprived (Irretrievably Lost Imagination)" and "Escalator Shrine" are all among my favorites. Amazing stuff.

Received the new album in the mail tonight and I'm up to Escalator Shrine.  A very different beast to the last album, but somewhat fresh.  As said, this is definitely a grower, but I like it and find it quite interesting.

Mariusz obviously, flaws and all. I think he's one of the most beautiful people I've laid my eyes upon. Michal seems like a bit of a cutie as well when he does interviews because he's so darn shy and it just suits him nicely :)

Basically, I think beauty's not a fixed point, but a spectrum, and everyone looks at me weirdly when I say that, so I'll just shut up :lol

Sleep-deprived-ness goes well with the type of thoughts that lie in the conception of the type of lyrics he writes, so he may even be that sleep-deprived

I just really don't mind stuff like that - I suppose I always see everyone as the most beautiful, red-carpet version of them, even when they're sick or tired as fuck or when they're unshaven and untidy or whatever. Can't really explain how and why it happens :lol

tl;dr you're not the first person to question my taste in men but Mariusz is just that pretty :lol
