I got my hands on one of his picks the other day, and it wasn't a Dunlop pick, but an Ernie Ball/Music Man pick with a "JP" logo on the back..
Oh, well... Maybe he doesn't really use it other than to throw it out to the audience...  :P

Edit: I could have measured it, but I don't have the right tools at hand...

Yeah, those were just to toss out at the crowd.

He used Red Bear picks ($20 a pick. That's why he didn't throw them out) a few weeks ago when the prog nation tour started, but I saw a recent video recorded  a week or so ago on Jordan's Youtube channel where he showed that he was using the Ultex Jazz III picks.
Before all of this he was using the regular Jazz III picks, but with his logo on them.

Last saturday I saw JP using some sort of white guitar pick at the Oslo gig.. Any clue what it might be?

Those might have been the Red Bears but they could have been the Ultex ones because they're a similar color (light yellowish).

He actually threw the picks out at the gig in Oslo.. So I doubt it was the Red Bears one? But he couldn't have usted the Ultex ones 'cause he's picks were all white.. Atleast I remember them being white.

It might have been that the pick looked white, or that he's actually using white picks now. This is the video I was talking about:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmIzrxIhvjU&feature=sub

I figure it's probably the ultex ones since I think they probably played Norway pretty soon after Finland, but you never know.

wow.

If you pay 20k for a guitar it is because you are paying for an instrument with such quality that it is superior to most other instruments. yes people pay 20k for a guitar. and yes people actually play them.

as for a $20 pick, did you read the description on their website? its extensive stuff, so labor and time go into the price, as with any expensive guitar. its not that hard to believe at all.

I can't understand how the pick would make that much of a difference to the sound though.

Go to Petrucci's forum and in the Gear section you'll see like 2 threads about these picks. People really like them.

try using a metal pick, then try using a nylon pick, same concept.

Yeh but a nylon pick, and then a different nylon pick. That's not the same concept. It really does intrege me though so I'm going to have to get my hands on one to try it out.

Play the pick that other pick makers use as a comparison and DO NOT be fooled by the imitators. Red Bear Original Picks are THE CLOSEST to REAL TURTLE SHELL you can get - PERIOD.

Our Original material is a polymerized animal protein (note: no animals are harmed in any way) that has many of the same physical properties as real turtle shell which makes it ideal for guitar picks. You could look at it as cultured turtle-shell. Many people who have tried picks made from this material cannot tell them apart from the real thing. Red Bear Trading Company is the sole manufacturer of these picks.

I don't see what nylon has to do with anything...

My teacher uses them, he let me play with one. Its actually worth it, compare even a jazz III to it and it great. Its like a knife through butter, theres practically no resistance between your hand movement and the strings, and the tone is NOTICEABLY better, much smoother.

I actually side with 73109. In terms of sound and manufacturing quality, about $7-8k I'd say is the limit after which you've used the best materials possible and the best manufacturing possible. The remaining $12k are simply fluff. Top-end products always have an open ceiling because there's always morons who will pay any amount of money in their belief that they've outdone somebody with that.
The above statement of course applies to new guitars. Historic guitars can go at any value, but that's not because of their sound.

Regarding the $20 picks, just because one is using fancy word ("polymerized proteins") doesn't mean it actually costs you any more to produce the stuff. It's a polymer, just like all the other picks.
