If you gotta talk to somebody here that much, use email or get on AIM.

I never knew this even existed, so I can only say that you're probably PMing too much.

Also, PM's can be tough on the forums resources, which is why if you are having so many PM's with people, you should take it to email, or a messaging program.

But PM ing is the exact same thing as e-mailing and it is just more convenient on one website, and I deleate everyone. I just keep one constantly because it is special  :blush

It has its users, but general chatting can be done much easier by other means. Bottom line is I would put a big bet on Bosk not changing this, so I'd find some other way to get your chatting done.

Nonsense, bosk and I constantly have staring contests via PM's and we usually send about 300 PM's an hour to each other.

I wasn't aware of this, but the reason it would exist is to stop private chit-chat from draining system resources. If you need to chat that fast, get on some kind of IM service, or even email, which is what those things are designed for.

Yeah, Nick and ariich pretty much nailed it.  As it is, we have a higher PM rate than a lot of forums, which is one of many reasons why our site uses more resources than the other SMF forums on our server.  It may not seem like much, but if everybody logged on at a given moment started using PM's as a chat feature, our usage would spike.  The limit helps prevent that from happening.

I've only ever had 3 PMs, and sent maybe... 2? I'm not a resource drainer :D
