Playstation Portable
« on: September 17, 2009, 04:47:16 PM »
Who has one?  I need some recommendations on awesome games, the ones I have acquired thus far have left me unfulfilled and wanting.

Also, is there anyway to get FFVII on it.  Because that would be amazing.

Thanks, DTF.

I think you could get FFVII, but it would require hacking the hardware which the newest generation don't let you do.

I need to get a PSP just to play Dissidia: Final Fantasy.

Aww man I think I have the latest version.  Dissidia looks pretty awesome, I might have to look into getting that

My cousin has FFVI

I have VI on PS1 and I never really got into it like I did with VII and up.  I have FFII on PSP and thats giving me the same kind of grief.  Its like an endless stream of dungeons, which I hate.

FFVII for PSP can be bought in the Playstation store. I'm not entirely sure how you have to do it since I don't have a PSP, I've just seen it in the store from my PS3, but its definitely there.

The only thing you need to get a PSP for is to hack it and use it as a portable emulator player.

Good to know!

Also, if you like FFVII, there's always Crisis Core.

Do you need a PS3 to buy games at the store?  I tried looking at the PS website but uh...

You might need a PS3, I know my friends use theirs to play Dissidia online. Although, if you have a wireless router or something, that might work too.

Anyone tried the PSPGo yet? I don't think I'll buy it at the current price (I've stuck to Nintendo handhelds so far), but it looks neat.

Yes. You can also be cool and get the modified firmware like I did and then just rip your own copies of the game to your computer, convert them to the format required using some software and then ta daaaaaa! You can play PS1 games on your PSP.

I bought one on release day way back when. I haven't updated the firmware since 2.6 or something like that... haven't bought a game in at least 3 years. I pretty much only use it as a media player.

How do I do this?  I've tried to use the google but alas I am semi-retardando when it comes to technology.

Well, what firmware are you on at the moment?

By the way, there's a small risk that the PSP can brick if you mess it up so you just have to follow the instructions very carefully.

Or search "How to check PSP firmware" into Google.

It's basically the Operating System version on your PSP.

Sure. You have to find out what version your firmware is. If it is above 1.5, you have to downgrade otherwise you can't put the custom firmware on.

There's various guides on how to do this. This site is just one of them:

https://hubpages.com/hub/PSP_Downgrade_Guide

Then you have to install the custom firmware:

https://www.psp-hacks.com/

You may need guides on this. There are various ones. Just use Google.

Once you get to a certain version of the custom firmware, you can just download it via the PSP automatically by using the update feature. Can't remember which version though.

As I said before, you have to be careful because there is a risk that you can brick your PSP.

Hacking is ruining PSP, TBH. While it's great, being able to use the PSP to play SNES games and such, hacking as really ruined the online play. Can't have fun with it. Especially games like MOH 2 when you load up and everyone's flying around.

Yeah I don't care much for online play though.  I just wanna play FFVII.  I will meditate on my decision.  So is there a way to fix a bricked psp?  There are conflicting views on the interwebs from what I saw.

I never play online.

By the way, you can easily get FFVII on your PSP without changing the firmware. You can buy it off the PS3 store and then load it onto your PSP.

I'm not too sure about this but you may be able to use someone else's PS3 to get it.

By the way, buying games off the PSN store and putting them on your PSP is supported by Sony so it's all cool.

This.  FFVII is only a PS3/PSP game available in the Playstation Store.  I have a PSP and it's great.  I also load ripped CD's from my laptop using a USB cable.  All you do is copy and paste music folders and you're ready to rock.  There's also a pretty good turn based RPG very similar to Final Fantasy called Brave Story: New Traveler.  Some other good games available for download are:

Pursuit Force I & II
Syphon Filter Series
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
Super Stardust Portable
7 Wonders of the Ancient World
Super Collapse 3
Luxor: Pharaoh's Challenge

Just became a proud owner of a PSP, love that thing! never thought it was that cool!
Playing PES2010, Burnout Legends, Silent Hill Origins and Assasin Creed Bloodline.
Also got an extra battery for my monthly flight, this is zweet!
Looking forward to the PSP God of War game and MGS.
