Quote from: cramx3 on March 12, 2025, 09:20:01 AMGood time to give him a hint that some of us would love to see those songs live again :lol I'd bet he'd make a joke about it, but would be shocked if he actually gave some negative feelings towards the person.  I'm fairly sure this type of stuff happens all the time.

Not ASTONISHING specific. I think asking MP to sign ANY album he wasn't on could lead to.... "why do u want me to sign this? I wasn't on it"! I'm sure he would say it nicely though :mehlin

I think MP would be cool, and make some sort of joke. I have met him a few times, and he has always been friendly and joked around.

I don't think I'm going to try to have him sign the cd, unless he sees it and says something.

We can get two things signed, so I'll get the poster they give out to the VIP for myself.

Quote from: SeRoX on March 12, 2025, 01:25:18 PMI don't know if effects of illness is still there but after he got flu James sounded pretty bad again. Toronto show was hard to watch.

I think it's just a bit of a vocally demanding setlist(too vocally demanding in my opinion) and it hasn't given James time to rest after he lost his voice with the flu.

That's the thing with the set lists - I feel like they plan them for when James is 90%+ on his game. In Philly he sounded great before he got sick. But tours are long and shit happens. People get sick, or just flat out vocally tired from 3-4 shows in a row.

I hope he feels better in between the time of now and the Parasomnia tour(im not sure how long a break it is, but hopefully it's a  nice little break for the guys).

They'll have a bit of a break after NYC before the summer festival shows begin...not sure about the fall Parasomia leg though

I think it's all in how you present it.

Is it James or Mike that messed up?

Or did Petrucci come in too early and James decided to join him? I still have no idea what actually happened there.  :lol

Thanks for posting this clip, by the way - I spent most of the day yesterday trying to find it, but it looks like this one was only uploaded later in the day.

Thanks for the video! James definitely came in early, but Mike was obviously singing along with James so he must've known... ?

The rest of the band didn't adjust to James coming in early so I suppose Mike thought he could speak? Definitely weird.

Regardless, that channel also had Metropolis where that front row audience member got clocked in the head by James' microphone! Dude took it like a champ!

nobloodyname

Sounded and looked like Mike kept on track throughout the entire thing to me. He even seemed to try to warn James he was in the wrong spot.

Ooops!

Ooops!

I saw them back in summer 2009 and they played I'd Like a Sausage A Rite of Passage, and at one point James came in early (second verse I think) and Mike swung his mic round and said something like "that's the single edit!". Was pretty funny

There was a video, but I can't find it anywhere, where Labrie cuts off the entire instrumental section of Metropolis Pt. 1 because he started singing the "Before the leaves have falling" part  :lol

Skeever

Yeah sounds like James came in earlier, and they tried to correct in different ways.

Labrie came in early.  On the studio recording, once they hit the landing note, there are four bars where the guitar, bass and keys hold the last note, while the drums play in 7/4.  Then there are another four bars where it's just drums and keys, but the guitar has also been playing in bars 5-9 in the live versions.  The bass joins on the ninth bar and the vocals enter.  In this instance, Labrie started singing at the fifth bar.  You can see Myung not playing until the ninth bar, and Labrie sang, "Our deadly sins feel his mortal wrath, remove all obstacles from our path," before Portnoy said, "Root!"  Basically, Labrie sang his interval lines before Portnoy announced each interval instead of after.  Portnoy tried to get Labrie back on track when he said something more than "Octave!" (and I think Portnoy was also a bit louder than usual with his interval counts) but Labrie didn't catch it.

Nope.  Petrucci was already playing (as per prior versions on this tour) before Labrie started singing.

Allergies are fucking me up. Timing SUCKS! DT tomorrow and then flying to Texas Tuesday for Hells Heroes Festival. I feel awful that JLB is battling through feeling crappy and trying to get these shows in.

James came in early.  But bear in mind that while MP and James can hear each other, its possible that JP has no idea that James is off-cue because he might not have his vocals in his inner ear mix.  So unless James repeats a line to catch-up, JP would have no idea they are out of sync.  Its clear JP changes his guitar patch for the climax.  With the inner-ear mixes it could be near impossible for the entire band to improvise a correction when you don't know a mistake has been made in the first place.

Not definitively stating this is the case, but just adding some food for thought.

Thanks! I wasn't aware of the extra guitar in bars 5-9 in the live version they're currently playing. It's too bad that a fuck up like that happened right at the climax of the song, but in a weird way I'm kind of glad that I got to witness it.  :lol

I was so over the top excited and even anxious about seeing them when they came through Dallas. It was such a big moment for me! Hope you enjoy it man.
Tower of ivory, house of gold? How could a woman be a tower of ivory or a house of gold?

I'm guessing it'll be the setlist that has been pretty consistent.

https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/dream-theater/2025/metropolitan-opera-house-philadelphia-pa-7353bec9.html

Most the songs have been consistent.
A few have switched out, as I am, a right of passage, the dark eternal night, panic attack and constant motion. Those seem to be switching around at locations. Everything else is basically the same as the linked setlist.

(Although home has been cut a few times because James has been sick)

For some reason, I thought the CT show was tomorrow so I'll be missing it. Enjoy Y'all, I'll see you at RCMH meetup.

Wondering if you were able to ask some things to the guys at the M&G.

CT show was great. I'm really loving the addition of the lasers, and James still sounds good this far into the tour.

I bowed out at the beginning of TSCO, though. I had been up since 4, and the Oakdale is one of the loudest venues I know of. My ears were rining really bad on top of just being generally beat, and I wanted to get out of the lot before everyone else. I suspect I got home well before a lot people even got on the road.

At first I thought it wasn't intentional, but now after Philly and keeping an eye out in CT, I'm convinced it is... there's a point in that funky breakdown of Octavarium where green and red lasers start mixing together and alternating. There is no other point in the show where the red and green lasers were on at the same time. I'm convinced it's a nod to the debate of whether or not you could hear jingle bells in that part of song.

nobloodyname

That's definitely meant to be Jingle Bells. It was mentioned somewhere fairly recently in an interview.
