Some classic metal today

The SkyEye album I believe I first saw here, recommended by Kade...really good stuff. Strong Maiden influence, including the vocals (far from a mere Dickinson clone, though!). Nice balance of more straightforward (Detonate is a banger!) and more adventurous songs. I think they have a new one coming out soon - I'll be keeping an, um, eye out for sure!

The Reverend Hound was just released, and I came across it kinda randomly. I ended up listening to the whole thing, as it's very enjoyable. Think NWOBHM filtered through German metal. That is - lots of Maiden, but Accept too. The songs are relatively straightforward, but the stuff works. A Cry for Light is a real nice closer. Inevitably, this is the kind of album that gets lost in the sea of new releases, but it's a fun ride.

Out of curiosity, why?

The first song I ever heard by them was Hit The Lights when KEA came out. It blew my mind. I was still pretty young..14 I think. It's such a groundbreaking album. No other album by them has tapped into my music soul like this did.

I mean, I love tons of Metallica, and there's plenty of individual songs that I'd take ahead of KEA, but as a whole, nothing beats it for me.

Just finished this. Very nice!

I loved the solos in Glory towards the end. reminded me of the ones from Emerald by Thin Lizzy.

To the bolded, probably, but it's earned a second listen.

I also spun the new Warlord at work, and I need to do it at home with headphones, but overall, I liked it. I love songs with generous musical sections.

Thanks for the insight, it's always tough to gauge how impactful albums are when you listen to them years later.

It's funny, but I knew it then, and I'm a little wide eared 14 y/o every time I listen to it. It never disappoints.

I've been going back to this recent release quite often:

Definitely scratches that Nightwish itch. Symphonic metal, but a tad less "over the top". I like that there is a nice, how to call it, "emotional heft" to the music and the vocal melodies.

Something very soothing about that early-mid period PT.
