The new Vale of Pnath is a top 10 contender for sure! It kinda reminds me of Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia era Dimmu Borgir. It's grandiose, and epic, and full of tasty and memorable guitar leads. I listened on the way to work this morning and my steering wheel basically became a fret board, so that says it all.

Onto this now. It's some Others by No One/Native Construct style prog, but also reminds me of Fall Out Boy in places. Make of that what you will.

I wonder if Peart's few guest appearances single-handedly put them on prog fans' maps.  I think Nick just posted about it a few pages ago when I was busier, and I think it came up in ariich's roulette last year when I sent them as a post-roulette submission.

In my case, I was a fan of the band (well, mostly the Everything You Want album) before I even knew about the Scannell-Peart friendship/collaboration. Even  in Italy, the title-track of that album was very popular, back in 1999. Fast forward a few years, now in the US...I remember finding Burning the Days as a used CD in my favorite record store when I was in grad school. I got that one, and was delighted to find out Peart was guesting. It's a very good album. It does feel like the tracks with Peart are a tad more adventurous (and heavier too). Echoes from the Underground is good too, although I didn't get into it as much.

Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

They are actually from my area, but I had not heard of them until the EYW title track was a hit here.  That one interested me enough to download several other tracks, which led to purchasing the album, which led to further albums, and they continued to be one of those bands that I was frustrated that people wrote off as a one-hit-wonder, when they had so much more depth and variety.

Having this on as we speak, and it's sounding VERY promising so far

EDIT: This was indeed a great listen. I agree with the band references you mentioned...the sound is both hefty and "airy", at the same time. Great vocals too.

With years of reflection I have to say this is my favorite by them.

Not my favorite in the overall discography (that's a three-way battle between Gutter Ballet, Streets and Edge of Thorns)...but most likely my favorite of the post Criss Oliva period. I feel Dead Winter Dead (which I like too) tends to get more praise, but I like Wake...more. It kinda grabs you from the very start, with that intro. Good stuff. Might be time to revisit it  :)

It really is. I've heard one album before, but I can't even really remember what it sounded like. This left such a good first impression that I might do my second with my decent headphones on.

I’ve been listening to Tommy Dorsey’s “The Seventeen Number Ones”. Oddly been inspiring some vibes for my next album (after the one I’m finishing up currently).
Check out the latest concept album “III: The Sparrow & The Architect”, released through my project The Circle of Wonders:
