Those of you that know The L.I.F.E. Project and their powerhouse vocalist, know that this is her main band.

Casandra sounds just ridiculous on this and the album is fantastic! They knocked it out of the park with this. Solid Hard Rock.
beul ni teh efac = Lube In The Face / That has to be wrong.  :lol / EDIT: Oh, it's Blue! I'm an idiot.
Pardon the interruption, but I just had to run in and celebrate the majesty of Lube in the Face as highest moment in roulette history

This is a super-intriguing batch, Tim. I'm queueing them all (I know you mentioned the Slight Lie before, and I keep forgetting to check it out). The Tarot album was already on my list, haven't gotten to it yet. The Tanith reference has me excited.

(you should check out The Wraith, from my batch yesterday...if you need a goth-y fix, that's a "fun" one)

I had planned to go through your post from yesterday tonight. I didn't really have a chance to digest it last night. I will definitely check out The Wraith!

The Tarot is cool. It's not quite as melodic as Tanith, but it's a slight bit heavier. It moves quite steadily, but don't lose interest before the last three songs. I love the guy's voice.

Yeah, the Slight Lie is cool. It's as if Vanden Plas covered House Of God. :lol
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

You might not find a ton to like in those, other than The Wraith...although I will say again that the Homecoming album is really cool. Try the In Vain album too, when you have a chance.

Vanden Plas and King Diamond sound a pretty unlikely pairing, I'll give you that  ;)

Some 2024 listening...

Tarot-Glimpse Of the Dawn- This album I am really liking. Kind of reminds me of Tanith without the female vocals. The singer has a great voice. The album ends really strongly as the last three songs are the best.

The Headless Ghost-King Of Pain-Pretty solid classic metal. Sounds a lot like Metal Church.

Slight Lie-From Caroline...With Hate-This is one of my favorite 2024 albums. I describe it like if King Diamond wrote an album for Vanden Plas.

Belore-Eastern Sands- Kind of atmospheric blackish metal with a folky twist. Really damn nice.

I'll have to remember to come back to these.  All look really interesting.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

@Nick...this is really cool, and definitely scratches that itch. I never really appreciated this kind of music when I was younger. I mean, I loved Fields Of the Nephilim, but didn't care for The Cult. This reminds me of what we would refer to back in the day as College Radio music. Things like The Cure and The Smiths.

Got through much of this at the Gym tonight. This is a great album. Clean vocals, kinda prog metalish without the wankery. Some power and symphonic elements but not overly so.

I sent a song from that Sentire album to Chad, it's a pretty good album.  Could use some more melodies, but all in all, it's a very enjoyable album.

Cool.

I actually had a song or two from that on my Kade Roulette playlist on Spotify.

Tom Petty- Greatest Hits

I remember seeing Tom Petty for the first time in '06 and it was something like a 26 song setlist and it was just hit after hit. I forgot how many great songs he has written.

Yeah, the Slight Lie is cool. It's as if Vanden Plas covered House Of God. :lol

Checked this out today! It surely is an interesting mix, although I don’t know that I would’ve thought of King Diamond and Vanden Plas ;)

To me, it’s more like if the melodies and the crunch of some modern, slightly radio-friendly metal collided with a power metal approach (thinking about songs like A Freak Like Me, or Storm That Flooded Us…something in the verses even reminds me of Killswitch Engage…then you have these great melodic choruses).

And then there’s something like the thrashy Disobey, with its joyous melodicism that makes me think of Theocracy, a little bit…?

Don’t know who these guys are or how you discovered them, but it’s a neat record :)

Gorguts are definitely a “blind spot” in my death metal education. I think I checked something out years ago, and I probably wasn’t ready ;) since then I’ve listened to a fair share of impenetrable, unwelcoming death metal, so I should go back and rediscover the pioneers, I guess. Is this a good starting point?

That Tarot record is indeed very enjoyable. I can see the Tanith comparison. Maybe not quite as colorful and "exciting", but it all feels very warm, if that makes any sense. Real nice sounding too. The last one is Convulsing - "Pendurance" - a solo death metal project from Australia. Very interesting album. Difficult, for sure, but quite original.

Also:

That In Solitude album is SO good (this is the s/t debut). I think they were kinda early movers in the whole NWOTHM scene. Strong early Mercyful Fate influence, with mostly lower register-vocals. It's all super-entertaining, but the second song, Witches Sabbath, is like the perfect combo of MF and Di'Anno-era Maiden. Great stuff. (Sad that they only made three records)

You'll still have to get Luke's opinion, but Gorguts is one of the relatively few of the more "out there" death metal bands that have resonated with me.  Their earlier material (like the album Luke posted) isn't so far off from from other traditional DM of the time, but they get stranger and more unusual over time.  Obscura is generally considered their pinnacle and the game-changer for avant-garde/dissonant/tech death (and the namesake of the German tech/prog death band).  Personally I like their later albums Colored Sands and the Pleiades' Dust EP best, I prefer the lower tunings and pristine production there.
