Ranked by how much I already want to see it on the next tour:

1. Space-Dye Vest. The 2014 tour never came closer to 8 hours away from me and I would have liked to have seen that.
2. Octavarium. Blink twice and it will be 2025 (god help us all). They have to play this.
3. Blind Faith. One of my favorite less played DT songs. It's time.
4. Afterlife. Tribute to Charlie.
5. Breaking All Illusions. The essential song of the MM era.
6. The Best Of Times. Everyone wants to be blinded by tears during that guitar solo.
7. Learning To Live. I personally want to be blinded by tears during this outro.
8. Status Seeker. My actual favorite song with Charlie, they'd probably go with Afterlife because he wrote the lyrics too, but have to put in a vote for the fave.

Everything else can either wait or I don't think it would be necessary to remind them of it.

I just have to read the title and I'll be walking around singing it for the next couple of hours, as I am doing right now.

Yeah, there needs to be a WDADU medley in Charlie's honor. I feel stupid I forgot that. It has to be done.

And tuned down, as someone suggested, so James can get those notes. I hope they do honor Charlie, IMO. Let us applaud the work he was a part of.

I just had a thought about that. They could do "To Live Forever" in tribute to Charlie (first song written after WDaDU) and I would think it would still be relatively comfortable for James. Especially the '94 version.

I think I want to see them pay tribute to the past and relive some of the old vibes but I also don't want them to totally diverge from the DT of the last 10 years. I picked songs I like that I have not seen live, but that I like...and with respect to the MM-era I picked songs that I think Mike Portnoy would do well with.

1. Glass Prison
2. Octavarium
3. S2N
4. Out of Reach
5. Surrender to Reason
6. Blind Faith
7. Lines in the Sand
8. The Best of Times
9. As I Am

I think Charlie's tribute should be Status Seeker or Afterlife, because he helped to wrote them.
If a summer tour happens before the new album release, I don't see they playing any MM era songs (although I would love to see that). I think it will be all about MP returning to the band and the previous history for their first tour back together.

I tried to consider what they might actually play/what James would actually sing(meaning I don't think they will play Illumination Theory because it's a Mangini era epic that would take up a large part of the setlist or something like Innocence Faded because James would struggle with that)

1. Octavarium
2. Transcending Time
3. The Glass Prison
4. Hell's Kitchen/
5. Lines in the Sand
6. The Great Debate
7. These Walls
8. Constant Motion
9. Honor Thy Father
10. Blind Faith

Also, I imagine Bosk going up to the band with the list and being "alright so here's the top 10 songs, but the forum really wants to see Octavarium. Like, really wants to see it - as in I think every list had Octavarium."

THIS would be a setlist I PERSONALLY would love to see on a pre-new album REUNION tour:
1. Metropolis, Pt.1
2. Overture 1928 / Strange Deja Vu
3. Voices
*welcome crowd & MP back into the fold
4. The Glass Prison
5. Raw Dog
6. Only A Matter of Time
*talk about Charlie Dominici & dedicate the next song to him
7. Take Away My Pain *acoustic
8. Wither *acoustic
9. Constant Motion
10. In the Name of God
encore:
11. Octavarium

My wish list will always consist of songs I have not seen live before.  Hope other fans will have a craving for some of these as well.   In order of my preference:

1.   Wither
2.   Raw Dog (let's pick up where MP left off)
3.   You Or Me (Demo Version is better anyway and much more singable for James)
4.   Disappear
5.   Anna Lee
6.   Cover My Eyes (bring this short nugget back!!)
7.   Viper King
8.   Vacant
9.   Behind the Veil
10. Transcending Time

My very epic list:

1. Octavarium - I'm like, 90% confident this will be the encore on the next tour. It matches what they've been doing a lot on recent tours (ACOS as the encore in 2017, The Count of Tuscany as the encore in 2022), so I think it's just a natural progression. Plus, it's LONG overdue, it's pretty much the most requested live song, and it would be absolutely perfect with the 20th anniversary soon and the reunion of the classic lineup, as this song perfectly encapsulates that whole era of the band.

2. I expect WDADU to get some sort of representation. I'd go with the classic Ytse Jam.

3. In the Name of God - Long overdue.

4. S2N - I doubt it'll get played on the next tour, but I hope it does at some point. It definitely deserves it.

5. Surrender to Reason - Same as above.

6. Home - A good classic Dream Theater staple, almost feels like a given with Portnoy being back.

7. The Glass Prison - Long overdue, would be an awesome opener.

8. Surrounded - We need at least one ballad, this one seems to go over well when it's played.

9. Raise the Knife - A longshot, I know, but if this tour is going to coincide with their 40th anniversary, I think an archival piece would be great and, to be quite honest, I just love this song a ton.

10. Metropolis - Dream Theater classic.

Some other notes: I think In the Presence of Enemies (the full piece) will get played as an encore in the near distant future, but not on this tour. It and Octavarium are two of the epics that are still in need of representation as of recently. I expect this tour to be a consisting of mostly songs off the new album mixed with pre-2011 songs and I think there'll be a mix of classic staples (Home, Ytse Jam, Metropolis, etc.) mixed with some more "deep cuts." I think that's the way to go for tours like this.

I like your list except this.  I think that the only reason they would do anything from WDADU would be to honor Charlie, which means they wouldn't do the instrumental.

Just a guess.

I fully expect them to never play Raise the Knife again. Written by MP as an "anti-band-member-who-left-the-band" song, it has struck me as very hypocritical since 2010, and would be very strange for them to play even though he's back in the band now.
I don't want MP playing with DT unless they were making a drummer change. If they let MM go and bring back MP, then fine, but no guest appearance please.

1. The Glass Prison (5)
2. Blind Faith (1)
3. These Walls (2)
4. Surrender to Reason (8)
5. Constant Motion (10)
6. S2N (9)
7. The Answer Lies Within (7)
8. Only a Matter of Time (4)
9. In the Name of God (6)
10. The Best of Times (3)

The brackets indicate my personal ranking but I also wanted to arrange the song order just for fun. I’m assuming this is a hypothetical MP returning summer setlist prior to DT16 release in late 2024/early 2025. I think Octavarium title track would be great as the encore for a potential DT16 “evening with” tour, which is why it was not included.

Tbh I just wanna see them play Breaking All Illusions, Shaman's Trance and maybe one of the Mangini era singles with MP.
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I'd be shocked if this was part of an album cycle tour, but if they go out this summer, I can see it possibly getting played. Even JP on the summer tours liked to feature a song from each album, and the 12 SS covers 5 albums right there.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

As long as it's good and heavy, I don't really care. Some songs I hope are not in the set list; PMU, TSCO and Metropolis.

Apologies for being late to the party here. Hope I haven't missed the boat.

1. Overture 1928/Strange Deja Vu - don't think you could top this as the first thing that gets played on the return of this particular lineup
2. A Fortune in Lies - another potential opener, signifying both a new beginning and potentially as a tribute to Charlie
3. Two Far - because I feel like this particular setlist needs some kind of callback to where it all started. Feel free to replace this slot with another tune from the Majesty Demos, but seeing as Another Won was played at Score and Your Majesty made an appearance during the ToT tour (I think? It was on the Lifting Shadows bonus disc...)
4. The Glass Prison
5. The Killing Hand - long overdue a return and could be another option for the Charlie tribute. Would also be cool to hear how they approach it in 2024 given that they would almost always put a new spin on it for every tour it got played
6. Sleeping Giant - this is the one MM era song I would pick above all others for a chance to hear MP's interpretation. Listening to the record it strikes me as something he'd be more than comfortable picking up
7. In the Name of God - again, long overdue
8. Oh, go on then... Octavarium
9. Home
10. Metropolis

Stream of Consciousness because it's one of my favorite rock instrumentals ever, and they never play it.

I don't even LOVE The Glass Prison (I get a little bored around halfway through it) but it would be a great opener for MP's return.

And that's it! Looking forward to hearing the new stuff though.

So the question I have is since they are putting out new material and they need to promote it, how many songs from the new era, how many songs from the MM era and how many from the MP era?

I say based on the list above:
New - 4
MM - 3
MP - 3

That would be a pretty long set requiring an "Evening With" and an intermission. They could even do an LTE song. John Myung could learn any LTE song.

I'll admit to being a bit out of the loop; my tastes started to drift away from DT shortly after BC&SL, then when MP left I just didn't listen all that much to the new stuff. Him rejoining them has me excited again though. As I'm out of the loop, and assuming they will continue to play some Mangini-era stuff live, what are the sort of 'fan favorites', if you will, of the Mangini albums?
