Second Kipressions

First impressions;

Lonk - Pretty stripped back and raw black metal and nothing fancy, but gets the job done.

Litho - Some really nice elements here, but I'm not sure on it just yet.  That solo though....

romdrums - Quite generic for the style but still solid.

Crow - Wow, this is excellent.

Stadler - Fantastic.  Some awkward melodies but love the atmosphere, plus the solo....of course.

Puppies - Damn, some of these vocals even make me feel uncomfortable!

ariich - Pretty safe submission when it comes to my taste here but strong and as expected.

Sacul - In my OP I said I was looking for unique, interesting music with something different.  Well, you delivered.

Jingle - If I was bordering on depression before, I certainly have it now.

Reaper - Jeez, this kind of just dragged the whole way through.

Evermind - Wasn't sure at first but this has a very cool dark gloomy atmosphere and potential to grow.

twosuitluke - Not sure these vocals or the melodies are going to get this across the mark unfortunately

Dr. DTVT - Pretty standard but was a nice enough listen.

TAC - Wasn't too wowed by this on first listen, but the guitar playing may change that.

Indiscipline - I can hear a lot of different influences here, and when the second half hit...'damn'!!

lonestar - Fucking hell, talk about testing my limitations straight out of the gates!!

Shadow Ninja - Yeah, not sure about this one.

KingKing - I know you're high on these guys and I've tried them before, they didn't stick then and not sure if they will now.  Some nice moments though.

Second impressions;

Might not reveal these until final writeups, unless you guys really want to know.  Will have writeups posted Wednesday morning. (about 48 hours from now)

I guess there's a reason why there's not many metalcore bands on my banned list.

Indi - Has a nice knack of mixing some acrobatics with some melodies that really stick.

TAC - I still don't know where I sit with this one, thought it would grow more.

This is pleasant enough really for what it is.

Actually, this is growing a little more than I thought it would.

This one grew a lot more than I thought it would.

Nah, can't do this at all.

Yep, you read what I wrote in my OP for tastes and seem to find something to nail where I'm at currently.

This one gets better and better, maybe being so different from most of the rest helps.

Yeah, just really solid black metal.

Even though I squirm in my chair listening to this, something keeps drawing me back to it.

This is nice enough to listen to, but is that enough?

Shadow Ninja - I can't get into this.  I like what it's trying to do, but it's just not doing it for me.

While this is solid enough, it's quite forgettable.  I enjoy it when it's playing but don't get searching for it.

Yep, really love the unique interesting structure here.

Just nothing new here at all that tickles my fancy.

Yeah, it's safe, but very enjoyable.

This is still most excellent, some wonderful melodies and atmosphere too

So my guess for the first impressions is this:

Wasn't sure at first but this has a very cool dark gloomy atmosphere and potential to grow.

The second impressions are tougher...

Oh, is mine the uncomfortable vocals one? I didn't even consider that, but I actually don't know how much of this style of black metal you listen to.

I'd have thought that would be totally up his alley and an obvious gap in the ban list.  Definitely curious if he elaborates why in the writeups, because I have some broadly similar stuff tentatively planned.  Of course, sometimes it's just inexplicable and bands hit or don't for arbitrary reasons.

I think we can all relate to this.  I think sometimes in the roulette environment, some songs suffer with what's been sent around it to.  Not sure how to explain that but I think the collection of songs can have effects on some songs that might have a different effect if they were bunched with a different group of songs.....if that makes sense.

Please keep in mind, these are first and second impressions.  I've had quite a few listens to these tunes since then.

Final listens today, some are still not locked in and some scores still could change.  Writeups done though, as mentioned will post tomorrow morning.

There's a clear drop with the songs I didn't like to the ones where you might be put off by impressions.  Because the gap between the songs I loved and the songs that were 'solid' isn't as much as a drop as the others.

First round member awards will be half a point too.

Oh, that makes the second one easier then, I assume this one?

I can't get into this.  I like what it's trying to do, but it's just not doing it for me.

Can I get a third impression? :lol

Also, are people allowed to send the same band as another participant if it's in the same round, or will the last one in be rejected? Like, hypothetically, if Luke sends King Gizzard but I've already sent another one of their songs for that round.

Yes sure, if I receive the same band a couple of times in the same round, that's totally acceptable.
