Don't ever talk to me. NIN is a great band.

Just amazing.  DT should count their lucky stars that some of their fans are at this level of unconditional cult worship.

Wow that's awesome. I have the Dvd's but just burned copies. The artwork is very nice.
Yeah, I bought it from a guy off of ioffer. He lives in Romania of all places  :lol But his approval rating was 99%, so I figured I was good. It's perfect. It even has a cool standard DVD menu.

Why don't more people on DTF like NIN, they are so amazing. Not a single weak album, and Reznor is the coolest guy in the music industry.

The Downward Spiral and/or The Fragile are the places to start.

Nah, TDS is probably the better starting point. (he said while listening to The Fragile)

It is, but he should give The Fragile a shot, too.

I do prefer TDS, though.

fragile left > with teeth> tds > the slip > year zero > pretty hate machine > fragile right

Haven't really listened to Ghosts properly.

So what's the deal with people who say their later work is worse? NIN's album feel incredibly consistent to me, with only fragile right suffering from doubledisc-itis, though still mostly awesome.

You put With Teeth before TDS, Year Zero, Pretty Hate Machine, and half of The Fragile? Jesus Christ.

The only problem I have With Teeth is that sometimes it feels like Trent is drawing from a source of anger that just disappeared with him conquering his drug and alcohol problems and getting his emotional disorders in check. It's a decent album, though. Year Zero was a great rebound and my 3rd favorite after TDS and The Fragile.

With Teeth sounds like a death rattle for the old NIN. Some of it is great, but it also boasts some of my least favorite NIN tracks ever (The Collector, With Teeth, the studio version of Only). It's too bad, because it's got a lot to like about it, too.

I love it, too, but it's not really one of my favorites by them.

But it's NIN, and NIN is love, and it is a good album as a whole.

I was bored so decided to check out some NIN tour footage on their youtube account. My biggest regret band-wise is to not get into these guys even a year earlier so I could see them live :(

edit oh god the great destroyer live O_O

My mother always forbade me from seeing them live because she hated them  :P Even though she had never listened to any of his music and just had an image of him made up in her mind.

It sucks because I had so many opportunities, too. I've been a fan since 2005.

I don't have that DVD, but I want it. Very much.

The guy is reopening orders for the dvd/blurays in August, so pick both up then!

I'm watching it now, the energy is incredible, that final tour looks so spectacular. I do wonder how it compares to their other live shows in terms of spectacle...

Seriously? Oh lawd, it's rainin' men. I'll get one for sure.

I have all of their other live DVDs and the Closure VHS set. And I got a DVD of Closure just yesterday, which I posted pictures of on the previous page. Have you seen their other DVDs?

Nope, I want to get hold of them though!

I saw the closure dvd, very nice, I will have to make sure I get that too.

Are you going to say your album rankings then?

edit: with teeth and tds bounce positions all the time, depending on my mood. With teeth has higher highs, but lower lows.

Definitely do. And All That Could Have Been, Beside You in Time, and Closure are all excellent.

Closure was never officially released as a DVD, but a lot of people were kind enough to make the torrent that Trent leaked into full-function DVDs. Got mine from ioffer. The VHS set is great for collecting purposes.

This is my ranking:

The Downward Spiral
The Fragile
Year Zero
Pretty Hate Machine
With Teeth
The Slip

Not sure where I'd rank Ghosts. It's an entirely different entity than their other albums, but it's really great to zone out or do homework to it.

I love them all, though. Trent Reznor was my introduction to music, so there's a lot of sentimental value in his music for me.

Why The Slip so low? I take it you prefer left to right of the fragile.

Also, I still haven't heard Broken.

For me, The Slip has always just sorta been.... there. Nothing more. It has some good songs on it, but I rarely have the urge to listen to it when I want my (daily) NIN fix.

Broken is a great EP. I highly recommend it.

The main problem with The Slip is that when it's good, it's good 90's NIN, and when it's bad, it's... Well, bad.

The way I look at it is, there's been a clear progression with NIN since TDS. The metal nihilism of TDS gave way to the haunting instruments and orchestration of The Fragile. This led to a more alt-rock, whole band NIN in With Teeth, seeming to clear Trent's head for the computerized, electronic Year Zero. After that came the totally instrumental Ghosts, which led to... The same kind of songs Trent has been singing all along. 1,000,000 would fit nicely on TDS. Letting You could slide in nicely after Survivalism on YZ, Head Down and Echoplex feel like WT tracks, it's nothing new. It's like a career retrospective told through B-sides.

Or maybe I'm talking nonsense again.

the slip is good, but it suffers because its a short album and the longest song is a boring instrumental (Corona Radiata)

So i checked out The Downward Spiral, and i quite enjoyed it. It was quite angry and heavy, at times beautiful. The lyrics were a bit f****d up, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I will listen to it again today, and then maybe listen to The Fragile.
