Mentlegen… I don't know about you all, but I get a certain level of satisfaction and accomplishment when, as a participant, my songs are one of (or THE) last ones to be solved during the hangman reveals.  Same goes for when I'm not easily identified/matched as the sender.  After 10+ years, 85 roulettes, and probably 1000+ songs submitted, it's not always easy to be unpredictable.  With Metro trying to inject some element of anonymity to his roulette, I got the idea of challenging the participants to be anonymous and unpredictable with each other.  How is that going to be accomplished?  Well, I'm glad you're curious.

Scoring:

Will be on 20 point scale, broken up into 3 components

1. Quality: 10 points for the quality of your submission (see more details below)
2. Unpredictability: up to 5 points allocated based on the order of whose song is solved in hangman.  That is, the first person's song solved is given 0.5 points, 2nd solved gets 1, and so on.  The last person solved gets 5 points.
3. Anonymity: up to 5 points allocated based on the order of matching submissions to the participant.  Same deal… 0.5 assigned to the first participant matched to their song; 5 to the last one.

Participants:

10 players - the seven listed below are already invited and part of my "must have" list.  Because of this scoring, it's simplest if there are only 10 participants; it makes the distribution of the unpredictability and matching points a lot easier to hand them out in 1/2 point increments.  And frankly, I just don't have it in me to have a huge player list - plus, the longer the participant list, the longer it takes to solve hangman.  10 feels like the perfect balance.  There will be an open qualifying round to fill the final 3 spots.  If you're interested in participating in this, see below for the Qualifying Round details.

The Rest:
8 rounds - completely open.
No theme's whatsoever.
No time limits.

I'm not doing this out of a desire to discover new bands or music.  I can do that well enough on my own - in fact, too much…. I've sampled over 150 albums from 2023 this year so far, along with who knows how many others I'm just discovering now from back catalogues.  So, other than my most favorite of bands whom I know pretty much the entire discography (there's probably a few dozen of those - and if you're in this roulette, I expect you to have a pretty good idea of who those bands are), it's a wide open field - genres included.  You want to take your chances with Country, knock yourself out.  If Stads wants to send a hunk a burnin' love, have at it.  If RJ has the pills to send kpop, go for it.  Cover tunes - fair game.  Tim want's to dig down into UFO or MSG, go for it (although, that might be too obvious and kill the unpredictability and/or matching points).  None-the-less, I want you all to stretch yourself and challenge yourself to be unpredictable - that's why half of the points are structured the way they are.  But ...

Quality:
I'm going to be brutally honest with the Quality category - think about it like a school grading method:

As get 9/10 (and 1/2 point increments)
Bs get 7/8
Cs get 6/7
Ds get 5/6
Fs get 4 - and if I get crap like Puppies sent a few roulette's ago (no offense dude, but some of that was just way out there for my liking), I'll fail things that I just really don't enjoy.  So send stuff I'll like, but go 'off the reservation' from your usual/typical submissions, or your unpredictability/anonymity points will suffer.  I will endeavour to open my mind a little more than usual, but at my advanced age, the hinges are pretty rusted up there.   EDIT:  Spotify is the preferred format.  YT will suffice if it isn't on Spotify.

Hopefully I've made this as clear to you as (I think) it is in my mind.  If not, ask questions.  Except Tim.  He's banned from asking questions.   :lol

Qualifying Round:

Since there seemed to be a bit more interest than I can handle to fit in here, I'm going to have an open qualifying round to fill the final three spots.  However, in the spirit of "anonymity", I've recruited TAC to proctor this qualifying round (and *only* the qualifying round).  This has the added benefit of removing any unconscious bias I might have towards the tastes of any particular sender(s).  So, the deadline - and this is a hard deadline - is Tuesday evening (Eastern time).  That way, TAC can send the list of songs to me and all you US peeps can be done with this before Thanksgiving festivities and travel starts.  The only rule in this round is make sure you don't send a song that I 'know' and will have to reject.  Check my last.fm library (https://www.last.fm/user/jingle-boy/library/music/Led+Zeppelin) if in doubt … replace "led+zeppelin" with whatever band name you need to check, which you can then sift down and check specific albums/songs.  If it seems I've played the song more than a handful of times, pretty decent chance I'll reject it.  I don't want to burden TAC with any back-and-forth.  Send him your song; he's gonna send me the list of submissions on Wednesday morning.  If there's any I have to reject, then consider yourself rejected.

I don't want to exclude any players whom have shown a pretty clear incompatibility with my tastes, but if you don't think you've got 8 more bands/songs that are going to appeal to me, please have the courage to skip this one.  I'd much rather have players that line up with my tastes participating and can send 9 songs that I'll enjoy, vs someone who happened to send a really great qualifying song, only to then send a handful songs that I'm all 'meh' about.  Like I said, I'm not doing this to expand or grow into any new styles or genres - I just want to listen to new tunes and have a shit-ton of fun with the guys.  So if your intention of playing is that you think you're going to get me 'in' to melo-death growls, or post-core-alt-punk-rock, pretty please with sugar on top…. sit this one out.

Let's not overcomplicate this one - just send me Tim a song you'll think I'll like.  Best three get the final spots.  No scoring, no ranking, no extra points for anonymity or unpredictability points in this qualifying round.  No time limits, no theme.  Just send me Tim a song I'll like.

This seems like a very elaborate way to ensure you don't receive King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard (at least from me anyway).

I trust you enough to know my tastes, so have at it if you feel you must.  Just please don't send 8 rounds of growls/scream-o's.

And if you stray to far into yucky territory, I can always repay you with the softest of soft-cock shit when you get around to hosting again.  ;)

I don't know if I can compete with my very simple tastes

It’s Chad. Don’t worry about it. ..

So I’ll compile all of the songs onto a playlist for Chad, and then he’ll rank them anonymously. Chad, did you mention when submissions are due?
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Chad, did you mention when submissions are due?

You were chosen to proctor a round you haven't even read the rules for?  :neverusethis:

He clearly didn't read at all. He's banned from asking questions.
beul ni teh efac = Lube In The Face / That has to be wrong.  :lol / EDIT: Oh, it's Blue! I'm an idiot.
Pardon the interruption, but I just had to run in and celebrate the majesty of Lube in the Face as highest moment in roulette history

I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

So, I know and I didn't really see eye to eye in the last roulette of yours I participated in (was that really 5 years ago now?), but after having you in a couple of my roulettes and seeing what you are sending in other roulletes, I think I have a pretty good grasp on your taste and I know I have stuff you will like, so I will try qualifying.

Now to find the right qualifying song.... :corn

Must......resist..........sending..growls......

I trust you enough to know my tastes, so have at it if you feel you must.  Just please don't send 8 rounds of growls/scream-o's.

And if you stray to far into yucky territory, I can always repay you with the softest of soft-cock shit when you get around to hosting again.  ;)

Nah, Im joking of course.  Although considering how much my tastes have strayed from yours, I'm really going to have to think about my submissions.  I mean, I don't have anything lined up.
