Mentlegen… I don't know about you all, but I get a certain level of satisfaction and accomplishment when, as a participant, my songs are one of (or THE) last ones to be solved during the hangman reveals. Same goes for when I'm not easily identified/matched as the sender. After 10+ years, 85 roulettes, and probably 1000+ songs submitted, it's not always easy to be unpredictable. With Metro trying to inject some element of anonymity to his roulette, I got the idea of challenging
the participants to be anonymous and unpredictable with each other. How is that going to be accomplished? Well, I'm glad you're curious.
Scoring:
Will be on 20 point scale, broken up into 3 components
1.
Quality: 10 points for the quality of your submission (see more details below)
2.
Unpredictability: up to 5 points allocated based on the order of whose song is solved in hangman. That is, the first person's song solved is given 0.5 points, 2nd solved gets 1, and so on. The last person solved gets 5 points.
3.
Anonymity: up to 5 points allocated based on the order of matching submissions to the participant. Same deal… 0.5 assigned to the first participant matched to their song; 5 to the last one.
Participants:
10 players - the seven listed below are already invited and part of my "must have" list. Because of this scoring, it's simplest if there are only 10 participants; it makes the distribution of the unpredictability and matching points a lot easier to hand them out in 1/2 point increments. And frankly, I just don't have it in me to have a huge player list - plus, the longer the participant list, the longer it takes to solve hangman. 10 feels like the perfect balance. There will be an open qualifying round to fill the final 3 spots. If you're interested in participating in this, see below for the Qualifying Round details.
The Rest:
8 rounds - completely open.
No theme's whatsoever.
No time limits.
I'm not doing this out of a desire to discover new bands or music. I can do that well enough on my own - in fact, too much…. I've sampled over 150 albums from 2023 this year so far, along with who knows how many others I'm just discovering now from back catalogues. So, other than my most favorite of bands whom I know pretty much the entire discography (there's probably a few dozen of those - and if you're in this roulette, I expect you to have a pretty good idea of who those bands are), it's a wide open field - genres included. You want to take your chances with Country, knock yourself out. If Stads wants to send a hunk a burnin' love, have at it. If RJ has the pills to send kpop, go for it. Cover tunes - fair game. Tim want's to dig down into UFO or MSG, go for it (although, that might be too obvious and kill the unpredictability and/or matching points). None-the-less, I want you all to stretch yourself and challenge yourself to be unpredictable - that's why half of the points are structured the way they are. But ...
Quality:
I'm going to be brutally honest with the Quality category - think about it like a school grading method:
As get 9/10 (and 1/2 point increments)
Bs get 7/8
Cs get 6/7
Ds get 5/6
Fs get 4 - and if I get crap like Puppies sent a few roulette's ago (no offense dude, but some of that was just way out there for my liking), I'll fail things that I just really don't enjoy. So send stuff I'll like, but go 'off the reservation' from your usual/typical submissions, or your unpredictability/anonymity points will suffer. I will endeavour to open my mind a little more than usual, but at my advanced age, the hinges are pretty rusted up there. EDIT: Spotify is the preferred format. YT will suffice if it isn't on Spotify.
Hopefully I've made this as clear to you as (I think) it is in my mind. If not, ask questions. Except Tim. He's banned from asking questions.
