I didn't even notice Jason Richardson got sent...his work is fucking god tier stuff.

That song is quite the song.

Years ago I went to see Intervals, and he was opening. I had no clue who he was, but man...did he put on a fucking clinic that had by jaw on the ground for weeks to come. Such an impressive guitarist. He joined Intervals for their encore, and seeing him with the two amazing guitarists for Intervals shredding was something to behold.
I dont know if you know, but he joined All That Remains after their former guitarist passed (RIP Oli). All That Remains is finally writing some new materials with him and I can't wait to hear what he does  :metal

That was his original band he left because of their rampant drug usage, right?

No, that was Born of Osiris, I think. I think he was in another band after that.

All That remains had the same lead guitarist for 20 years until Oli unexpectedly passed away. They are a Metalcore, which I know is not everyone's cup of tea, but some of their music is freaking great. Oli was a huge inspiration for me so I am curious to see what Jason Richardson does with the band.

Can't believe I actually wasn't guessed.  I suppose it's clear no one read my writeups.   :rollin

90% of the time, people only read the writeup for their own submission.

I 100% do this 100% of the time.
I read mine of course but also dip into some others depending on how well I know the artist and/or am interested in the host's view of that artist.

Very little chance I'd remember what a host thought of a particular song or artist that wasn't mine from months ago though, there are a lot of roulettes!

Anyway mine is most likely 12.

Oh, I know, I was mostly joking.  I do read every writeup, but can understand why some might not, particularly in ones like mine when many of them were super-sized (and why I ended up adding summaries of them in the second half of the roulette).  That song was just such a pivotal moment in my roulette though.  I'll briefly tell the story after this round ends.

I tried to make this round harder to guess, it looks like I succeeded

Round 8 first impressions

Megadeth – Mission to Mars   faizoff   A band I have seen live, with some of the most insane mosh pits. They're still writing cool songs like this.
An Abstract Illusion – This Torment Has No End, Only New Beginnings   Puppies   A very slow builder, does that beautiful synth solo in the middle make up for it?
Jason Richardson – Sparrow   jingle.boy   Absolutely brutal sounds.
Disillusion – Tormento   romdrums Cool textures and back and forth with the vocals, heavy stuff too.
5   How did a short amount of time accomplish so much?
Ghost – Kaisarion   Luke   Knowing a few of their songs, this has some of that same feel, lighter than I would think, but some old school feel.
Befell – Tribulation Wilted   TAC   Reminds me of the days in high school listening to metalcore bands with my friends.
Once Human - Only in Death   vmads   Rippingly brutal, so much energy.
Ryo Okumoto – Chrysalis   King   Sounds like a Neal Morse song.
Psychonaut – Violate Consensus Reality   Litho   That build-up to the growls, yeah that's good.
11   There is quite a story here. I dig it.
Weyes Blood – Twin Flame   tomislav This lady has a nice, airy voice.
Taylor Swift – Karma   stadler   This lady sounds like she has matured.
Bloodywood – Machi Bhasad   lonestar  This sounds absolutely devastating.
Rioghan – Bruises   Ariich   You almost made me shit my pants.

Re: Jamesman Roulette 3.0 - Round 8 RESULTS (someone is gonna be maaaaaad)
« Reply #1013 on: January 10, 2024, 06:45:35 PM »
Round 8 Results!

Jason Richardson – Sparrow   jingle.boy   8.7

Yeah man, the electric guitar does everything it can to portray a feeling of hopelessness or a battle, I don't know, music is subjective, but that's what I got out of it. The music video is stunning (it doesn't add on to this score, just mentioning it). Really powerful song.

Disillusion – Tormento   romdrums   8.6

This song was a trip for me. It feels like I am in a crazy storm, and the different vocal styles make me feel like I am IN the song. Quite a feeling, so this song gets a cool boost from that. Good music overall, too.

Moon Tooth – The I That Never Dies   ReaperKK   8.6

Pretty strong song, it feels like it gets a lot done in...3 minutes?! That's pretty insane. The music is good and the lyrics were nice to this math teacher's heart. :lol

Rioghan – Bruises   Ariich   8.6

This was a very interesting song. After I got done shitting my pants on that first scream, it became a fun habit to listen for the scream again. Really intense emotions and I could feel those emotions weaving in and out. Very solid song.

Ghost – Kaisarion   Luke   8.5

This is a rocking song. I like the guitar (and/or keyboard?) leads. Vocals are smooth as I am coming to expect from this band. I solidly enjoyed this song.

Befell – Tribulation Wilted   TAC   8.5

This is good, reminds me of some stuff I grew up on in my late teens and early 20s. I wasn't ever huge into metalcore, but some of it was good, and I have a friend from that time that is in a band to this day. The cleans are a great balance to the harsh vocals, the guitars let this song fly nicely. And the riffage is good. Solid song!

Ryo Okumoto – Chrysalis   King   8.5

I seriously thought this was Neal Morse until it got to a certain point. The song has some nice chill stuff going on, and the parts where it builds up a bit more have some nice dynamics as well. Really cool proggy song. It does seem to repeat one too many times for my taste, but otherwise a very solid song. (Yes, funny coming from a Neal Morse fan)

Bloodywood – Machi Bhasad   lonestar   8.5

This goes hard. I enjoyed the live video you sent as well, a great live song. The Indian influences give it enough of a distinctive edge. The soft part toward the end is sweet as well. Great and short, you know I like that.

Megadeth – Mission to Mars   faizoff   8.4

This song was weird for me. I liked it a lot on first listen, and more listens kind of spelled out for me that this song is just okay. Megadeth is hit or miss with me anyway, so being just okay is better than it could have been. I prefer when the band has more melodic lines to it.

Weyes Blood – Twin Flame   tomislav   8.4

A nice floaty song. This song came after a ton of metal tracks before it, and like many people, a nicely set-up playlist makes songs like this stand out a little more. It's still not totally my stuff, but the music and ambience provided makes this song solid.

An Abstract Illusion – This Torment Has No End, Only New Beginnings   Puppies   8.3

This song has a nice intro, slowly brings you in, then the band comes in. I think going right into the harsh vocals turned me off though. The middle is really good though. The outro is also nice. It is a bit long for what I like, and by the end I was waiting for it to end, even if I enjoyed a good amount of it.

Once Human - Only in Death   vmads   8.3

This is a solid metal song. So that vocalist is female? Whoever is singing has a great metal voice. I liked the instrumentation and vocals but overall I didn't get connected with it as much as I would have liked, though it was a good listen.

Taylor Swift – Karma   stadler   8.3

This is fine. I'm not a big pop fan, but I like some TS songs from over a decade ago. She sounds like she is having a good time making music, and is progressing her sound. The lyrics are interesting, but this isn't my favorite flavor of Swift, I think. But this was a nice listen.

Psychonaut – Violate Consensus Reality   Litho   8.2

There is some atmosphere here, which is a positive, and some overall good riffs. But for me, this song falls a bit flat otherwise. I give it some points for that atmosphere and not being bad, but once it was over I could hardly remember the song.

Kendrick Lamar – Mother I Sober   Sacul   8.2

I am not much of a rap fan, though, is this rap? I think it is. I appreciate the genre regardless, it's not easy to make sound good IMO. I don't pay much attention to lyrics, but the lyrics here are powerful and a slight bit relatable (being a child helplessly watching your mother deal with stuff). So this score is with all that in account, it's not bad but it's not really my thing, while I really like the lyrics.

Overall Impressions: Another solid and consistent playlist. Nothing too high or low, just...solid. I enjoyed it!

Kendrick Lamar is the Dream Theater of the Hip Hop/Rap world, come @ me. He has some of the most compelling music though, I'm in the minority Mr. Morale is phenomenal album.

I'm glad you dug Moon Tooth! I'll send something either tonight or tomorrow morning.
