Certainly a few 80s elements for sure.  Some more modern ones too, which gives them a bit more timeless and singular feel to me.  I've liked how they've expanded their sound of late to include more of this approach.

There's been a fair amount of electronic/pop of various stripes in recent years that intentionally adopts a lot of aesthetic traits that are reminiscent of music from the 80s, and this song is certainly in that mold.  But the nice thing is that they can choose the elements from that era that don't sound as dated, and integrate them with more modern ones.  There are various synth sounds and production and mixing details throughout the song that didn't really exist back then, so it's kind of a best of both worlds scenario.  I'd also say the songwriting feel, the phrasing and tone of the guitar solo, and the vocal style are also a bit more modern than anything from that time.
