Absolute Priority - Dead Man Walking
The vocals are very Geoff Tate. Powerful ending. Wish I had the lyrics so I could follow the story.

My Guess: lonestar

https://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Absolute_Priority/Hunter/355623

And you are correct ... we both sent this one, and I politely re-submitted (since RJ was the one that introduced this album to the forum).

Mine was right.  Big mystery!!  :) :) :)

Thank god I didn't shoot JFK or bury Jimmy Hoffa.   They would have solved it on November 24, 1963 and August 1, 1975, respectively.  At least you guys know I'm not DB Cooper!!!  :)

David Maxim Micic - Daydreamers
Very “scrape-y” guitar tone, but great playing. I’ve heard of this guy somewhere, and I just wrote him off as just another djenty-wanker kind of guitar player. But he’s got some great chops. Two vocalists here, I definitely prefer the female singer.

My Guess: Buddyhunter1

Correct, and yeah he gets lumped in with a lot of instrumental prog guitarists like Plini, but he transcends that classification in my opinion. It helps that a lot of his stuff has guest vocals, but my first reaction to that album was that it scratched my itch for huge, bright, optimistic, wall-of-sound metal with excellent riffs and melodies that only a certain Canadian musician we both ranked #1 in the countdown thread had managed to do prior. ;)

I don't even know if I'd lump Plini into that.  He's the most melodic and interesting of them to me.  David does so much more than that though.

He's melodic yeah, and his playing style and the atmosphere of his songs is pretty similar to David's, but I'm not that into him. For me, he falls into the trap with most guitar-driven instrumental prog of being way too one-dimensional. I saw him opening for Periphery the other week and I wished his set was like, half the length it was.

We're probably just not going to agree on that.  I've seen dozens of those players on Youtube, and most of them I forget their names right after I learn them.  He's one of the few that I've kept coming back to and actually remember his music afterwards, with to me a fairly wide range of influences.  You might just be the ariich of that style.  :p

Yeah Plini doesn’t do much for me. I do have the Archetype Plini plugin from Neural DSP, and that thing sounds awesome.

And I figured out where I first heard DMM

Yeah, describing Plini as one-dimensional is something I can't get on board with. But seeing the recent setlist (didn't know he was on tour) I can see why Buddy would think that.

Instrumental acoustic guitar music probably wouldn't fare much better, for future reference. And yeah, spot-on with why Who Bit The Moon is my least favorite album of his. Though I do really like Ego and Bilo I despite them being almost entirely instrumental - I just find the songwriting to be particularly strong on those, I suppose. David Maxim Micic is also probably one of my favorite guitarists, so that certainly helps.
