Love Operation Mindcrime, never heard anything else.  :lol

Any recommendations?

A very expected choice, and at a fairly expected spot. Had they broken up after Promised land, they would have been in the overall top five.  :P ;D

O:M (and O:L) are god tier.  Top 10 AOTY for me.  O:L may be my favorite live recording/DVD ever.  Pre'94 QR would've ranked higher, but even with the tripe between HITNF and S/T (ie, Toddryche), they're a top band in my list.

25. Queen (23)
24. Van Halen (13)

23. Nada
22. Nope
21. Uh-uh
20. Queensryche (8) / <99% certain>
19. Nah
18. No
17. Guaranteed
16. I could be the only one that voted for them
15. I'm definitely the only one that voted for them
14. Fo Sho
13. Evergrey (43)
12. I'm not sure why I even voted for them!
11. Nightwish (40)
10. Me and King only
9. Nope
8. Symphony-X (50)
7. Highly unlikely, and I'm stunned they didn't make the Top 50.
6. Spock's Beard (28)
5. Criminally, no
4. Ayreon (29)
3. Without a doubt
2. Bet my annual salary

1. Led Zeppelin (10) <99% certain>

One of my other, other favorite threads on this forum is Samsara's Queensryche Discography Thread (also a great book here.) I like Queensryche but don't love them. To me they are far too inconsistent to make my list but with that said they have some absolute bangers. Personally I think the best era was the DeGarmo/Tate and its what I return to the most. Not surprised they made the list but a bit suprised they made it into the top 10.

Queensryche, like Fates Warning before, is another early prog metal band I tried to get into back when I first discovered Dream Theater, and unlike FW, I actually bought and own a few albums by QR. Sadly, they just never stuck with me and I've never really gone back to give them much of another chance..

Not surprised they made the list, surprised to see them in Top 10, personally they wouldn't have made my Top 100. Operation: Mindcrime is very good but even then I don't listen to it anymore.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Queensryche had an amazing run, from the start through Promised Land, but fell off the map after that and crashed pretty hard once the turn of the century hit.  They wouldn't have made my top 25, even with having three all-timers (Rage for Order, Mindcrime and Promised Land), but they would have been in the tier that just missed the cut.

Queensryche absolutely should have made my list on the strength of Promised Land and all of the albums before it.  And I've enjoyed the Todd albums a good bit too.  Especially The Verdict.  I made my list too fast, but glad to see others made up for it.

Promised Land is one of the reasons that Queensryche did not make my list.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

Queensryche were a big part of my early prog and metal experience, and there was a time when I felt Geoff Tate was the gold standard for vocalists. Empire is an amazing album and still one of my favorites. Mindcrime is also great, and Promised Land and Rage for Order are also strong albums on either side of that run. But that’s really where my interest in QR starts and ends. They got some consideration just because of how big they were for me for a time, and they would have made my top 50 for sure, but they did not make my top 25.

QR is my #5 band based on the 3 incredible masterpieces from Rage to Empire and the excellent run from EP to Hear in The Now Frontier. My fave band around 91'. A lot of criativity and diversity in their original configuration, that ended too soon, unfortunately.

Great moments but very short, as my wife uses to say.

I always think about QR's career as if Deam Theater broke up after FII.

Still at 9

Queensrÿche
As with Marillion, there was a time when they were my number one band. For me up to and including Promised Land.
After that they have not connected with me at anything like that level.

Don't mind what I've heard from Queensryche, but never dove deep into their output or purchased any of their albums.

Question for ReaperKK -- with 46 people entering the countdown, how many people listed a band at #1 that did not make it into the official Top 50 countdown?

As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Queensyche are fine I guess.

This.

I have seen them live when they opened for Heaven and Hell in 2007. I hate to say it, but it was boring and got followed up by an incredible performance by Alice Cooper and the headliner.

4 for 4.

I made a prediction the other day with 11 bands/artists left and so far I'm 3 for 3.

D
G
-Haken
I
-Led Zeppelin
M
P
P
Queensryche
R
-The Beatles

that being said, if these are all correct, than there were some pretty big snubs considering some of the names that made the list already.

Can't really argue with this list but just to say if it is correct then I am very surprised the 'G' band has ended up so high. Not because they would never have gotten close on my own list but more because I don't really see them mentioned too much on the forum. But maybe that doesn't matter as I guess it isn't as if they are doing anything these days...
