The track is certainly out of place on Awake but is still amazing. It's like an I&W track that got lost in the forest.

I don't think it's out of place. It has some brighter music, sure, but it is a nice contrast to how the album progresses. I think that makes Awake that much cooler, IMO.

Also, do we know why they named this album "Awake"? I guess that could be asked of most albums, but just curious if we know why this specific album has that name. The word gets dropped in Innocence Faded and The Silent Man, the latter is a big part of the chorus, so maybe it's just that.

See my more recent posts in this thread, I've since come around and that's actually one of the ones I like more now. BTW, welcome to the forums!

There is sort of a waking/sleeping theme that runs through the album. 6:00 is the wakeup song, then you kind of have a lullaby to close it with Space Dye Vest. Also Lifting Shadows Off a Dream. All in addition to the term "Awake" appearing in the lyrics.

That thought did cross my mind after posting that and logging off.

Also the title "Images & Words" came from the lyric in Waits for Sleep about trying to fall asleep, so there is a bit of a progression there.

Yes, that one is obvious :)

I mean progression from album to album. Images & Words title is taken from a song about falling asleep, Awake is sort of the answer to that.

I totally see where you're coming from musically, but lyrically I think it jives with the rest of the album.

to me, Awake had always been a massive 180 of an album, (especially when compared to both I/W and WDADU) and an intended one even. I don't think it's their worst album. (FII would be that to me) I always liked James' parts, as well as the Johns'. (The Silent Man is my favourite piece on it actually)
All my natural instincts are begging me to stop
But somehow I carry on, heading for the top
